In 1154 (12th century), D. Afonso Henriques' wife, D. Mafalda, turned the monastery over to the Canons Regular of Saint Augustine. This donation was made in honour of Saint Marinha, patron saint of mothers in labour. “Best food we’ve had in Portugal”
Impressive place to visit. The highlight was the really excellent dinner abc lovely staff. The gardens are nice but in winter rather bare . The area is busy with locals at the church and at events being held at the posada.the bedrooms are huge and the corridors and function rooms impressive

“Wonderful all around”
Staff is wonderful, professional and friendly. Restaurant is superb. Bedrooms have character and charm and you feel transported to medieval age, while enjoying modern amenities. The Monastery is really something to be seen. The halls and ballrooms are incredible.

Just wonderful... in all the aspects. Historical Building , gardens, people, ... it was an amazing experience. The bed was very good and the views are amazing.
