“Falls short of a 5* hotel ”

We stayed for 3 nights (starting New Year's Day). The hotel is very clean, the room was gorgeous. We booked a luxury suite (Room 401) which is on the very top floor. Check in went smoothly & we settled into the room. I'll detail the positives first: *The room is extremely large, apartment size. There are obviously smaller rooms in the hotel, but just want to give an outline of what our room on the 4th floor was like. *There was one tiny window in the hotel room which looked out onto the main square, but the room can feel quite "closed in". * The kitchen area really is just for show. There are no plates, cutlery, etc. There is a fridge & freezer (fridge is the mini bar). *Couches and seating area was luxurious with a television. There was also a television in the bedroom which we didn't use. *Bathroom was cosy and warm with a heated towel rack & large bathtub with a seating area inside the tub. Luxurious lotions, shower gels & shampoo/conditioner readily available. *Bedroom was large with a king sized bed and two lamps on either side. Plenty of storage in cabinets, and a whole area at the back of the room for more clothes storage. There was a velux window up above the bed with a blind and so the room was very dark, even in the mornings (I need darkness when sleeping so this was welcomed). *Breakfast downstairs in the Amalia restaurant (which we had included in the price of our stay) was very good. There was a buffet style area with fruits, granola, toast, pastries, etc which you could choose from, but a breakfast menu was also presented once you were sitting down. It had a lot of lovely options, most of them including some type of egg, whether benedict, scrambled, on a brioche bun, etc. Tea & coffee (and prosecco) were also on offer if you so wished. The staff at the restaurant were extremely kind & courteous. Cannot fault them in any way. *Dinner was available in the same restaurant, Amalia Steak and Seafood, which is a part of the hotel, but we didn't dine there during our stay. We did, however, receive a 10 percent off voucher at the time of check in for use in the restaurant. *Location - you can't beat it. We were directly on the main square in the Old Town "Rynek Glówny", and within walking distance of Wawel Castle, Wawel Cathedral & many other points of interest. *Spa facilities - there is a small spa area (on the 4th floor) with access to an exercise bike, relaxation chairs, a sauna, steam room and showers X 2 and a toilet. The spa can only be used if you ask at reception first and give 1 hours notice. I guess due to the fact the hotel only has 16 rooms, there isn't a need for the spa to be on the go 24/7. The hour is needed to prepare and heat up the sauna, steam room, etc. We used this once during our trip and it was just us in there. Very relaxing. *Cleaning staff were lovely & friendly Some cons to our stay: I have read a number of reviews already, even before arriving, about the check in process and the hastiness of that process with little interaction from the receptionist staff, etc. What I will say is that I have stayed in other 5* hotels before and I think the differing factor in my giving a 4 star in stead of a 5 star review was mainly down to this. While the check in process was extremely fast and efficient, I didn't feel much warmth or welcoming nature from the staff. It just felt like we were going through a process. Maybe a little bit more of an interaction would have been welcomed. In saying that, the porter who dropped our bags to our room was absolutely lovely. We didn't have any other interaction with the reception except to ask to use the spa and when we were checking out. On check out, we were simply asked did we use the mini bar which was asked directly after the room keys were placed on the reception desk. We weren't exactly asked did we enjoy our stay in the hotel, was everything okay with the room, or did we enjoy our stay in Krakow itself. Again, just another touch which may have gone a long way in leaving a 5* review. The room we were in was very cold. We did have the heating up (in the living area and the bedroom) all the time, as well as the towel rack in the bathroom as it gave an extra bit of heat. Again, I am not sure if this was in any way due to the time of year and the fact it was very cold outside, but we struggled to keep warm in the room. We did not address this with reception, as the heating was already up as far as it would go, and if getting a portable heater into the room was an option, we were considering the fact that the room was over 900 square feet and we don't think it would have made a huge difference. I think the hotel falls short of being a 5* in my opinion generally due to a lack of the small, little extra touches that I have seen in other places before. This hotel only has 16 rooms, and I have been in other places before where there are upwards of 300 rooms for a 5* hotel and the level of service, even in those places, where staff are dealing with higher volumes of people, are still able to maintain that level of personalisation for each guest. For the price, which was over 300eur per night, we were expecting a little bit more as regards that 5* level of service. In saying all of this, it was a lovely hotel itself, in a perfect location for exploring Krakow.

This hotel has what you’d need for a great stay in Krakow. The location is unbeatable - old town, just off the main square. Our rooms were on the side street so it was very quiet despite the fantastic location. We had two rooms next to each other, which I requested in advance. The reception staff were incredibly responsive and prompt when I emailed some queries before the trip. Staff were fairly polite - our only real interaction was when we were coming and going over the 5 nights we had there. I would say that it felt a little impersonal for a small hotel in this regard as staff were a little ‘cool’ in their manner. The hotel is very pretty and very clean. The rooms are ornate in terms of furnishings - lots of dark wood, brocade and florals - which gave it a grand feel. The bed was comfortable and the rooms very spacious. I had very good sleeps - beds ideal. I think you’d need two duvets if sharing the bed as it would have been a tight fit for a couple. I liked the chargers in the bedside drawers - so convenient! The rooms had plenty of amenities and great coffee machines. I would have liked a little more light in places but that’s minor. The bathroom was very small for such a grand room (one of the rooms was particularly big) but well equipped. The shower suited me as I am only 5’1 but my 6’2 son found it a little lacking in height. We didn’t take the breakfast option because we didn’t want to be tied to the hotel. There are numerous restaurants nearby which sell breakfast until 12pm. We used the spa facility. Guests need to let reception know that they wish to use it about an hour before. The spa was small but very well stocked with towels and water, and the sauna was lovely. We were lucky as the hotel seemed quiet and we had the spa to ourselves. The only downside for me was that the rooms allow pets and I had allergic reactions in my room despite the cleaning that had taken place. I would recommend this hotel - old school/world feel about it with an unbeatable location.

“Lovely stay, perfect location.”

Stayed 3 nights in this lovely hotel. Perfectly placed right next to the square. Stayed 3 nights in this lovely hotel. Perfectly placed right next to the square. We stayed B&B and the breakfasts were lovely, small selection of cereals, fruit and pastries as you go in and a breakfast menu that is cooked to order is also included. The staff are helpful and friendly, rooms cleaned to a high standard. Only 1 pillow per person, requested second pillows that were speedily delivered. We had a lovely stay.

We paid an upfront booking fee for the table and for this we were promised a saxophonist (he was amazing) and a Champagne toast at midnight but unfortunately we never received ours despite a glass being given to all other tables.
