Reviews for Waterfront Insular Hotel are mixed, and that's a shame. This is an OUTSTANDING place, with superior customer service and phenomenal people! We went to Waterfront Insular based on its outstanding long term reputation in Davao City, where it is very highly regarded and a gathering place for meetings and ceremonial occasions, for good reason. When we checked in, we were first assigned a room that had been very recently renovated- not a problem for me, but my wife had a strong reaction to the residual smell of lacquer. I went down to the front desk, and was quickly and professionally assisted by Sheila and Anna, both of whom were empathetic and went above and beyond to line up an alternate room with James, the Bellman and the housekeeping staff. They even ensured that my wife had an opportunity to check out the room first, and it was perfect. James cheerfully removed the luggage he had just transported up the staircase back out and up a second staircase to the second room. Throughout our stay, Anna, Nestle, Sheila, James, pool and restaurant employees and others provided what top notch customer service! And everyone employed with the hotel greeted us with a smile each time we encountered them! Restaurants, pools, poolside facilities were all excellent, clean and attended by happy, hardworking service professionals. We had a breakfast buffet daily with our room selection, and the food was so good that were even got the salad options which we passed on in other Davao City establishments. The food was excellent, and their pizzas are not to be missed! On our final day, the gentlemen that climb the coconut palms daily to harvest coconut nectar, and ensure no one gets clocked by falling coconuts were out and at work. My wife, knowing I was intrigued, asked if they could explain the process. While one gentleman explained the process, the second scaled a tree and grabbed a sample. It may seem like a minor gesture to some, but as someone who is married to a filipina from the provinces, I was eager to learn and impressed they took the time, and like others, went above and beyond. They made my stay in Philippines and at Waterfront Insular unforgettable! I hope they know how their kindness and hard work means to guests! Waterfront Insular has been around a while and is a top of the line, highly regarded facility for good reason! Their service is simply unequalled. Any renovations or maintenance performed is no more than an y other facility would need. In my first visit to Samal, and earlier on this visit, we stayed at the priciest new resorts on Samal. While both were excellent, Waterfront Insular is every bit as good-- and has superior customer service. Give them a chance to do what they do and you will find they go above and beyond. You'll be happy you did, and they all seem to love their jobs and genuinely want guests to be 100% satisfied at every turn! Incidentally, their price is much, much lower than the other two resorts I mentioned above.
