This hotel, which is arguably the safest in town, has some of the kindest and most charming staff one can imagine. I reserved room for 10 college students and myself in July 2013 for a class on global health. We had such a great time staying there and getting to know the staff and patients at the children's hospital adjacent to the property that I returned with a new batch of students and my entire family this past July. My kids had great fun following the 5 llamas that are the "mobile lawnmowers" on the property. There are opportunities to volunteer in the laundry, kitchen and related child services departments in the hospital next to the hotel. If you're looking for a special place with staff who enjoy being part of a mission-focused hotel and hospital, this is the perfect place to stay. It is especially nice to know that your lodging payments go to help fund a superb children's hospital. Awesome hotel!

Hostal San Juan de Dios hosted 10+ of my university students and me for several weeks this summer. The hotel has a special mission -- it's run financially for the benefit of a children's clinic (Clinica San Juan de Dios), which is literally next door on the same property. My students and I thoroughly enjoyed the hotel facilities, it's great location in the middle of town, and the opportunity to volunteer at the clinic and to get to know some of the child patients. The staff, including Janet Gutierrez and Mirian Huaman Sair, really helped my students and me with travel logistics, illnesses, taxis and anything else we wanted/needed. I highly recommend this hotel for people who want to stay in Cusco at a special place with a special mission!

“Great value, friendly, clean, quiet and the best place to stay if you get sick”

The Hostal San Juan De Dios in Cusco is located next to a children´s day clinic/hospital and the profits from the hostal go to the clinic. You can also volunteer to help at the clinic, playing with the children who have cerebal palsy and other diabilities and helping at meal times. It is a small hostal run by a group of young Peruvian women who are only too happy to help out with anything you need. The rooms are spotless and have great views across Cusco to the mountains, the building is modern, bright and airy, and you get an egg breakfast most mornings. The showers can be a little dodgy though, mine had a tiny trickle of water that either scalded or froze you. So I just used my friend´s bathroom whose shower was fine. The real bonus of staying here was when I became sick due to e.coli and giardia infestation, the hostal staff got a doctor over from the clinic to see me within an hour and then went with my friend to get the prescription filled and the lab samples organised. They then brought me soup etc to my room when I was able to eat. Fantastic service overall.

its a little out of town (3 soles by taxi to get in and out) but its quiet, all profits support the childrens hospital nextdoor, the grounds are quite nice and the service is BRILLIANT. the only tiny spoilers are the hotwater sometimes being good and on other times, intermittent. the rooms are fair… more

its a little out of town (3 soles by taxi to get in and out) but its quiet, all profits support the childrens hospital nextdoor, the grounds are quite nice and the service is BRILLIANT. the only tiny spoilers are the hotwater sometimes being good and on other times, intermittent. the rooms are fairy standard and a little sparse. breakfast was filling. just down the road, there are rows of shops, restaurants and the like that are very low cost compared to central cuzco. we liked it, especially as our money goes to the hospital. we paid circa $35 but i´´m sure you can get lower.
