The Hotel is a graet stay for practical people. Sopme parts of the Hotel semm alittle bit used, it not brand new. But it is clean. The rooms are not fancy but well equipped and well taken care. Especially the beds we consider as very comfortable. The Staff is very friendly and helpful. Everyone of the staff. They really care and offer solutions for any problem or inconvenience.. And the breakfast is great, perfectly suitable for a day of activities in the arctic. The staff is really keen, to keep all in order. For us it was the second trip, and we will certainly book again this hotel.

“Great, apart from the whistling room....”

Stayed for 4 nights at the Scandic Grand, end Nov into Dec 24 Had a very pleasant check-in, and the room we had had nice big windows with a view to the South over the city. Room was a decent size, we hd 2 children with us. Both beds were comfortable. Unfortunately, on our first night, the wind was howling through our door- not under the door, but around the edges. A high pitched shrieking noise, which meant none of us got much sleep. I video'd the issue, and proved it was the door not shutting properly by pulling the door hard - which stopped the whistling. I suspect as we were in the first room from the stairwell, and the door to the stairwell was locked open, this was causing the issue. When we went down to reception, the two ladies there, despite me showing them the video (and them hearing it for themselves), suggested it was a guest whistling and that it wasn't wind..... I was somewhat shocked, the video clearly showed the issue. Suddenly, customer service mode kicked in and they offered us another room. The second room had a terrible view but was bigger and had no wind noise so all good. Other than that, had no issues- breakfast can get busy, and tables are somewhat short on supply at busy times, so be warned if you have a large party. Food is nice, somewhat short of varieties of fruit, but given that everything has to be imported at this time of year, maybe not a surprise. Great location, and we'd stay here again.

The hotel is right in the middle of the town. 10 minutes from the airport. It’s at walking distance from the bus station where we boarded chasing lights tour and also city centre near cathedral. The hotel is clean and offers an awesome buffet continental breakfast that also includes fresh fruit, pan cakes, sautéed food with plenty of vegetarian friendly options. It’s quite comfortable and does not feel one is staying 600 km above the arctic. Take the route 42 from airport that stops very close to the hotel . It costs only 22 NOK. The AirPort Express bus takes same time but costs 125 NOK each. A taxi costs 290 NOK. Route 22 city bus will take you to the cable car as well as cathedral that are on the other side of the bridge across the Fjord. Overall nice hotel and value for money with awesome central location.
