Exceptional. Our favorite hotel of our 27 day tour across New Zealand. The Bolton is an oasis of comfort without pretense. Welcoming staff helped us navigate and handle trip hiccups with minimal fuss. Decor and furnishings are stylish without pretense. The premier one-bedroom twin suite included a light, airy sitting room , dining area and fully equipped kitchen. We loved the in-room clothes washer/dryer. Relaxing dining room with great food is a super bonus at the end of a busy day.

The Bolton in Wellington provided a truly exceptional stay. Located right in the city, it felt like a hidden oasis with its gorgeous garden views and relaxing atmosphere. The facilities were impressive—everything you might need is right there, making it easy to unwind without stepping out. Dining at their restaurant was a highlight; the food was fantastic, and we never felt the need to go elsewhere. For anyone looking for a convenient yet peaceful escape in the city, The Bolton is a perfect choice. Highly recommended!

This was our first stay at The Bolton. We were expecting a great stay based on the reviews we had read and a personal recommendation from our neighbours. There are positives here - the central location near the Beehive, the pleasant view from the rooms and the really comfortable beds. We stayed in a premier twin suite on the 13th floor with valet parking. Our suite was opposite the lifts but thankfully we didn’t hear any noise from them. I asked for a late check out and was pleased to be given an extra hour - thank you. However, there were many let downs at this hotel. The main disappointment was the condition of the room. It could have been great with a kitchen, including laundry and large refrigerator. But - the room was very tired, with lots of chipped, worn and discoloured furniture and fittings.The kitchen sink tap fell off when we went to use it. The bedroom walls were marked and there was no desk to work at. The bathroom was extremely basic - no hook to hang clothing, very little counter space and no bathtub. No space to open up or store toiletry bags. One of the doors into the bathroom didn’t shut properly (not ideal when sharing with 2 others). On arrival there was a screwdriver left in the middle of the bathroom floor. When I returned it to the front desk, the guy just laughed about it. No apology. Obviously no one checks the rooms to ensure they are acceptable before guests arrive. We paid $180 for breakfast for 3 on two mornings. It was OK although no explanation was given regarding ordering eggs other than scrambled. On our second morning we noticed other guests being delivered hot poached eggs. So we asked if we could have these too as we didn’t want the provided cold, scrambled eggs. Surely things like this should be explained to guests on arrival in the dining room. No barista coffee unless one pays extra (on top of the $30 breakfast charge). On arrival, we were told where to go for breakfast on check in. This was the only information/orientation we were given on arrival. No other information was given about the pool, gym, surrounding area etc. On that note no one welcomed us to the hotel. No one asked how our stay was on checkout. In fact no one even acknowledged us throughout our stay, other than a short good morning from the waitresses who seated us for breakfast. All in all, a disappointing stay.
