I had another great stay here last year with another welcome upgrade to a top floor. The whole Hotel was redolent of understated luxury, and I thoroughly enjoyed the bathroom amenities and communing at the Hotel Gymnasium, The Staff were lovely, and one even got a complimentary welcome drink at the excellent in-house Bar. I cannot wait to return here again someday.

I highly recommend! Special thank you to Kate, Blake , Zien, Monica, and Kayleigh for the friendly and professional atmosphere which enhanced my stay. I want to mention that Blake is a great bartender. Another star employee is Kate. Kate's smile illuminates the room, she is very thoughtful and professional. Oh and I had to try the tiger beer considering tigers are my favorite animals. I also enjoyed the Urbanaut Beer that is exclusive to JW Marriott Auckland.

“Overall between a 3.5 - 4 stars”

This hotel is still undergoing renovation after taking over ownership of the previous Stamford hotel. We specifically booked the newly renovated room as we were in town for business for 2 weeks. We only got level 4 as they only renovated rooms starting from the bottom two levels. As part of our Elite status, we also had breakfast included and also an elite hour every night from 4-6 PM at the lobby lounge with a complimentary charcuterie board. When we first got into our room, we found that there was no couch, which was shown as part of the feature in the picture via the Bonvoy app. One of the bigger reasons we specifically booked the room with the couch was due to our extended stay. We went back downstairs to ask for a room change. We later discovered that, apparently not every newly renovated room had this couch, which was already a problem because every picture they used for marketing indicated the presence of the sofa. Secondly, the new room we later got moved to was originally reserved for another guest. This entire mess up upon our check-in did not make the best first impression. The room itself is very nice and spacious enough for a city hotel. The placement of the lighting throughout the room, as well as having multiple settings to choose from, allows for different ambience. I specifically appreciate the "floating bed", the lighting around the full-length mirror by the door with coat hangers, and the motion sensor night light in the bathroom. There's a very decent-sized marble dining table, a comfortable lounger couch by the window, a Nespresso coffee machine, and a great-sized bathtub. The view is nice, you look at the tall ANZ building, all the surrounding skyscrapers, and Albert Street, and depending on the room, you might get a glimpse of Sky Tower as well, for our room, we can only see the side of it. The most impressive feature of this room is the thermometer and the bathtub, when you adjust the temperature, it takes only a short while for the room to get to that temperature; and the pressure of the water, as well as I assume the size of the drain, are so strong that it takes no time for the tub to fill, and for the water to go once you're done. One of the biggest pain points is we often need to plan a bath beforehand as it always take a while for tub to fill, but it was never the issue for us at this hotel. The hotel also has a great sized pool and a jacuzzi on the 10th floor, with sets of big windows that overlook the city. The gym is on the other side, again boasts a city skyline view including the wharf and water. We had breakfast almost every day during our stay, it was buffet-style with acceptable choices of food, mainly your standard eggs, sausage, potatoes, bacon, some fruits, and bakery assortments. They do rotate some food items so not the same food every day. Two offerings that we do appreciate are there's different types of immunity shots from the brand "Homegrown", which we like, and there's also a juicer where we can juice our own juice. They also offer barista coffee but it's at an extra cost. During the elite hour, they have a good selection of nice wine and non-alcoholic beverages, and the mixed charcuterie board is also good. Service in general was acceptable, but we do want to acknowledge the breakfast team as they delivered consistent good service throughout our stay. Every staff were friendly and attended to our needs, and one staff even offered us complimentary barista coffee one morning as goodwill because we waited for a bit longer than usual to first be seated and second for the coffee to come. Throughout our stay, we ordered room service a few times, and called reception a few times for items we need, overall the speed of staff coming to our room was acceptable. The only less than ideal part of the service was Housekeeping, we noticed a few issues: dirty bed sheets, bin next to the table not being cleared, daily bottle water not replenished daily, replenished the wrong type of water ( we get glass bottle water for our room type, not the plastic bottle ones ), no replenishment of teas / coffee capsules ( not sure if this is part of Housekeeping's responsibility here, or a separate person does this - there were only a handful of times a person came by and asked what needs to be topped up in the mini bar), bathroom amenities not replenished ( bath salt, cotton swab ), Housekeeping team not servicing our room until past 2:30 PM or sometimes even 3:30 PM, the day before we check out, no one came past 4 PM and I had to call reception, only to get a lady spoke back to me in a way as if me asking for our missing daily Housekeeping servicing is me asking too much. We found ourselves bumping into the Housekeeping team working on our room a few times when we've been out half the day and wanted to come back and rest, only to have to wait downstairs by the lobby. The last time this happened, there was also a I assume to be a Housekeeping manager or team leader, and she advised us to let reception know that we were waiting for housekeeping to wrap up and as soon as they are done, they will communicate with reception so they can let us know. We did as she said and the reception lady acknowledged it, we ended up waiting and went up after in our own accord and found the room servicing was finished, yet no one informed us as they said they would. Ideally, for a hotel with better-trained staff, while customers are waiting for housekeeping to finish up late in the afternoon, which shouldn't happen in the first place, it would've been a better experience for guests in general, especially of Elite status, to be offered something to drink while waiting, rather than letting guests just sit and wait. This is a decent hotel overall and we've had a nice stay. We couldn't try their restaurant next door this time as they're still renovating, but the interior decor looks promising, hopefully so does their menu.
