Very happy with our stay. The ladies in charge of housekeeping on floor 2 were lovely and made us feel most welcome. Great location, big room with balcony overlooking the pool with a sea view (room 241) and attentive friendly service at breakfast. Pleased to recommend without hesitation .

I really liked El Minzah and would recommend it as a good place to stay in Tangiers. It is a very large hotel, very plush and has a lovely old-world vibe about it. It’s well located a short walk from the medina. You can see it was quite something in its heyday although it’s not quite what it was - there are some minor maintenance issues such as the verandah dividers looking a bit shabby and a bit of damp in the walls but nowhere near what I was expecting after reading some of the other reviews. It has one large pool and a smaller, shallower one. There were quite a few people there but plenty of deckchairs. We booked a deluxe double room with sea view and it didn’t disappoint. Note that the hotel is not directly on the waterfront but the photos of the sea views are accurate – I was delighted to find we could see Spain on the horizon as well. The room size was fine, quite large, with a big suitcase rack plus a portable one and a very rare full length mirror. We had double doors opening onto our large balcony which had a table and a couple of chairs overlooking the pool and the sea in the distance. It has a restaurant with belly dancing, a dining room and a piano bar, which has a nice view over the port. The doormen were really good - professional but chatty and helpful. Points for improvement - verall I’d highly recommend El Minzah but there were a few things that could be improved. Service in the piano bar was non-existent; we had to almost chase the staff around the bar to get drinks. Front desk staff were hit and miss – some were great, others didn't seem to know what they were doing and gave us inaccurate information on a few occasions. Taxis taken from the hotel are convenient but much more expensive than those flagged on the street. Breakfast was a huge buffet but not the greatest – the cornflakes were extremely stale and most hot food was just lukewarm. This turned us off trying the restaurant for dinner.

Didn’t have evening meal so cannot comment. Very poor experience with hotel concierge. Ordered taxi to Ceuta and told it would be two hours because they were providing a ‘special car’, at a special price. 800 instead of normal taxi MAD 500. Turned out it was the concierge relative driving one of a thousand similar taxis. Why make your guest wait 2 hours to line your family pocket? I know it’s Morocco, but it’s a 5 star hotel supposed to be providing 5 star service. I don’t expect to have to be on my guard for being scammed in a hotel like this, it is what you expect if your flagging down a taxi, which we did on another occasion, and received better service from. The last experience from a hotel is your overriding memory, you spoilt ours with a street scam. Otherwise I’d have given 5 star rating.

The positives.. fabulously clean room, incredibly attentive and helpful staff from housekeeping, through reception, bar etc... Honestly cannot praise the service and attaention in the hotel itself enough. Lovely room with comfy bed and pillows, but the devil is in the detail, dated overall and in need of update, lovely batroom toiletries but poor shower certainly not 5 star standard, nice large towels but again a bit old.. dripping toilet, broken bathroom door so only shut with door lock applied, rusted balcony furniture. 90 % of channels listed as provided unavailable on the TV. The spa is poor overall.. the indoor pool is grubby.. tiles grubby, discarded broken goggles around and generally came across as needing attention. Therapists were all friendly and lovely but spa reception staff were quite disinterested , unattentive and unhelpful, constantly on mobile phones, ringing to get an appointment was a chore and told services unavailable even though seemed very quiet and was not in high season. The hotel restaurant El Korsan, fabulous food but experience ruined by being rushed to finish, we arrived an hour before advertised closing, but as mains were served were told must order dessert or anything else we wanted immediately as they were closing, which left us rushing our meal to get out the way. All in all a mixture of good and bad that left us feeling a little disappointed overall.
