Like many other Riads, this is an upper-mid class ancient Moroccan house turned into a boutique Hotel. Having booked the Airport transfers in advance, we were greeted by the driver at the airport, driven to the Medina, where a gentleman (Riad employee) met us by the taxi area and volunteered to take our luggage to the Riad. There, he had us seat, and served us mint tea while warmly welcoming us. Alessandro (manager) arrived then to take care of details and install us in our accommodation. Everyone was extremely welcoming and nice, even though we checked in earlier than expected. The cleaning lady was still at her job but she welcomed us nevertheless with a warm smile….We felt like the most important thing for everyone there was that we arrived safe, and were happy and relaxed…the rest was secondary. The Riad was nicely decorated and very clean. Every single day there was floor cleaning somewhere, street cleaning outside the entrances, etc….Staff looked happy, always greeted us in a relaxed manner, always ready to help, without being intrusive. Beds and bath were spotless clean (not easy in traditional/antique decorated premises), towels and everything super clean and smelling really nice. Beds were comfortable, nice firm mattresses, super clean sheets and pillowcases, again smelling nice. Traditional biscuits, tea and instant coffee available for you to prep. Water available (bottled), all included in the price. AC perfect, good for when you have 36 Celsius outside. Coq Berber is one of the quietest and most relaxing places I’ve been to….different ambiences depending on the floor and/or common area you choose to sit, work, nap :)), or read your book, always nice and quiet. We slept nicely, few street noises in our room (except those related to Riad services, and prayer calls). Woke up, shower (nice, good temp and pressure), and off to the terrace for breakfast (included). Bread (wonderful, freshly baked), cake, eggs, crepes or pancakes (varied daily), coffee, milk, butter, strawberry and peach jams, honey, fruits (varied daily, grapes, sliced apple, melon, peach, etc…), freshly squeezed OJ, water. All good and plenty ( I’m a coffee guzzler), served at the table. Any other meals can be ordered for an extra (very affordable and always nice….All great, the salads are yummy…..). Checkout was seamless, cab arrived 4hrs before the flight time (on our request), in sum, a really pleasant time.

“Great riad with fine staff, and plenty of space to spend your day if the city gets too much”

This is a fabulous riad. Yes, every riad is or tries to be an oasis of calm. Trust me, you need one in Marrakesh. This riad, while small-scale, is like a double oasis, in that it has not one but TWO inner courtyards that are connected via intricate sets of stairs and terraces (it takes a while to tour the whole labyrinth between the two entrance doors). The major upshot to this riad is that apart from having very nice rooms (I don't know who decorated the place, but they had taste), the public spaces are many. I counted no fewer than 9 terraces on the roof and on intermediate levels of the building. That means that it's very easy to just while away some time in various temperatures when you just can't face the bustle of the souk. Communication beforehand was very friendly, got very useful info on arrival, where a mint tea immediately put us at ease, and all personnel there was very helpful and accommodating. On the final day I fell ill (nothing to do with the riad), and staff really went out of their way to help, even accompanying my wife as she went to get medicine. This is great hospitality, and simply a great place to spend time.

“Very nice riad in the middle of old Marrakech (variable customer service though)”

Very nice rooms, very clean. The riad is really charming and very well located. On a minus point, we needed an early breakfast (7:30) because we had to leave town at 8:15 (organised by the tour operator that had also booked the riad) and were told that it was impossible as breakfasts start at 8:00. So we had to delay our departure by 45 min to accommodate them (and had a long face from the waiter). Also when we tried to pay for the beverages and a lunch with our credit card (the amount was roughly 800 MAD so not a few coins) we were told that it was impossible, we had to pay cash! As they have a terminal and we didn't have the whole amount in cash, they let us pay for half in cash and half with the card. They should be clear and state the min amount to pay with a credit card to avoid those unpleasant surprises. To sum it up I'd say that the customer service can vary a lot.

Nice little Riad, well-located. Make sure you know where it is as there are hustlers waiting to take you 10m down the alley and charge you for the privilege (there are no signs). The staff were a mixed experience, at times they were helpful, for example with getting us an early breakfast at 8am exactly. It’s delicious and served on the rooftop with great views of Marrakesh. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the best experience overall but I hope this is unusual. We got given a different room from the one we booked for three nights and nobody mentioned a thing. It was dingy and smelled a bit damp, downstairs instead of with the terrace. We were tired and it was late so we didn’t say anything. The room was noisy because there is a window which can’t be closed in the bathroom, and on the other side is the massage room where a lot of staff are chatting loudly. On the second morning at breakfast a staff member told us we had to move rooms then and there. I think he was confused but we had made it clear we were rushing off somewhere so I wasn’t sure why he didn’t mention it before. Turns out our original room was now free, and the one we were in had someone coming that night so they claimed we had to leave. Well, we were meant to be out 8:30-2pm so I explained we couldn’t move rooms and, anyway, I preferred to stay in the one we had as I didn’t want to pack everything. They then insisted that *we* had requested the move (we didn’t). Anyway, it all seemed to be a misunderstanding and they covered an extra 30 mins of massage for me as an apology. The massage was great and only €25 for an hour. However, it wasn’t always an enjoyable stay and a bit stressful! So therefore I can only give 4 stars, also for the fact that we didn’t get refunded the difference of being given a worse room.
