This Riad is situated a ten minute stroll from the main square and is off the beaten track meaning that there's less hassle and aggravation when you're walking back to it. Suffice to say, off beaten track doesn't mean unsafe. This is situated in a hard to find alleyway away from the crowds. Yes, it's difficult to find but I would say that it's worth the effort. Booking in and out is so simple and likewise bags can be left at all times of day and night. With no more than around ten rooms this is a small establishment but it's current rating I feel doesn't do it justice. This Riad has a small inside plunge pool, very comfortable beds and 24 hour hot water all in en-suite rooms. Breakfast, whilst modest, is very Moroccan with coffee, different types of bread, butter and jam and fresh orange juice. The Manager was always happy to answer questions and contrary to other reviews here there was never any hassling or pressure whatsoever to take his excursions or trips, just basic good old fashioned help with no conditions. I'll certainly be going back to the place and I'll tell you why? Because the cost of the room for two with breakfast including the obligatory local nightly tax came to less than £25 all in. A very good find indeed.

Some of the facilities like the bathroom could get some renovation but if you keep the low costs in mind what you pay per night (breakfast included), you can be satisfied about the moderate stay. Did I already say that the staff is really friendly? :p I would recommend Riad Al Tainam everyone who is looking for a low price vacation in Marrakech!

“Decent place in a quiet part of medina”

Don’t come expecting the Ritz, this is a local, budget spot. We traveled with our toddler and found it a good spot to take refuge from the bustling medina. The staff is somewhat helpful (most friendly are Amina and the older night guard) and they do their jobs well. We stayed 3 nights. The ten minute walk to Place Jemma al-Fna is good for getting used to the tempo of the Medina. Whatever you do, DON’T follow anyone’s directions to the square or let them convince you to go to the tannery. You’ll be shuffled between “honest guides” until you’re channeled into a store next to the tannery. 400dh for a child’s pair of shoes - bargain well and get them for <80! Do NOT feel bad avoiding eye contact, saying no, or walking away. There are plenty of small convenience stores for water, women selling baghrir (flat light bread with air bubbles) and other breads. We were able to cobble together food from these, cafes, and the riad to our stomachs’ satisfaction. The pool is great for relief from the heat and the rooftop terrace was great for morning and evening relaxation. PROs: - AC for 25/75+ temps - quiet space - large closets for storage - large bathrooms - lots of pillows on the decent beds - simple but beautiful fixtures in the rooms and the shared spaces - rooms are cleaned daily (towels every other, but we opted to be earth-friendly and kept ours - Amina’s tagine was out of this world: we had the pollet citron (citrus chicken) and the lamb - breakfast is included, it may be simple but it meant we didn’t have to scramble to find food early in the morning - plunge pool open 10am-6pm - rooftop terrace full of plants, beds, and covered sitting areas CONS - food is expensive - 143DH/12€ for the two tagines (but the tagines mentioned above were worth it) - no dinner - riad is worn down (but that’s also part of the charm - it’s a somewhat real Marrakechian space, not a perfectly done up modern hotel) - no one who worked while we were there spoke English very well - we used a translation app often and that helped a ton - a pipe under our sink leaked quite a bit - shower drain backed up too - plunge pool closes at 6pm
