We were going to stay in Guadalajara / Zapopan at the Wyndham Garden Guadalajara Acueducto, but they didn't have a pool, so we choose the European Life Style Executive Suites & Gallery (ELSESG) in Zapopan, about 15 minutes away, depending on traffic. ELSESG is an eclectic display of art, wrapped around a hotel! Lots of Salvador Dali, Picasso, statuary, EVERYWHERE -- as I said, eclectic. Fun place; staff is very helpful. English & Spanish are spoken, and they are attentive. They have a pool, and we never got into it; we were so busy seeing different things, going to various events for the destination wedding we came down for. There is a nice breakfast that may or may not be included in your room price; it's an additional $16 US if not, with an option for either an American breakfast with a pancake, scrambled/fried eggs and fruit, or a Mexican breakfast with fruit & chiliquilles, both served with juice and coffee, both delicious (I had the Mexican breakfast, my girlfriend choose the American). Other food options are very close nearby, and offer good fare. Our room had a small veranda outside, so we had our morning coffee there in the sunshine as we looked out onto the city. Most coffee in Mexico is grounds + water like the US, in a coffee machine; most of South America is instant. For speeds sake, I went to the local store and found some great instant from Nestlé, and shelf stable Carnation creamer for my girlfriend. The room had a nice fridge for keeping beverages cold, and there is also a microwave on top of it to heat the water for coffee, as well as a toaster, blender, and coffee maker. There is a 2 element gas cook top, with sparse silverware, and no cookware besides pots and pans (read: no spatulas etc). No wine glasses, so we improvised with provided water glasses. WiFi was spotty in the bedroom, and acceptable in the front area by the kitchen. There is also a dining table with 2 chairs and 2 plates preset. The shower was nice and warm, and while the water faucets at the bathroom sink were wobbly, they functioned fine. The only thing I didn't like is that they don't mop the floors, so our feet were often dirty when barefoot. My solution to that was to wet the bath mat in the bathroom, wipe my feel on it, then immediately put on my socks and shoes if we were going somewhere. For an eclectic place (truly, art EVERYWHERE in many forms), it's a great stay, and inexpensive; at the time of our stay we paid $55/night, Thurs-Mon. Our friends paid more than twice that at the Wyndham Garden Guadalajara Acueducto. Difference? The Wyndham is in the area where there are lots of fun bars and discos, and our place was quiet at night. To meet up with our friends we took a taxi.
