Hotel La Casona de Cortes is a charming small hotel located only a few blocks from the zócalo in Tlaxcala. The rooms are situated around a lovely central courtyard and fountain. The King superior rooms and bathrooms are large, filled with colorful painted Mexican furniture and ours had a small balcony that looked out onto the street. There was plenty of hot water in the shower and toiletries were provided. The beds were very comfortable and there were plenty of blankets to keep warm on cold winter nights. As others have mentioned, there is no heat and because of the stone walls and tile floors, the rooms do tend to be cold. They would be great in the summertime with no need for A/C! We didn't spend a lot of time in our rooms so the cold didn't bother us or our friends but it may be a downside for some people. Also, around 8:30 am, the State Police barracks next door have reveille which might disturb some light sleepers but, other than that, our room was very quiet. There is free wifi access throughout the hotel and it is also pet-friendly. La Casona de Cortes has an attractive on-site restaurant that is open for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is not included in the price of the room but there were lots of choices, the portions were generous, prices were reasonable, everything was well-prepared and service was excellent. All of the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful which made our stay an enjoyable one. We loved Tlaxcala and would definitely stay at La Casona de Cortes again, if we should return.

“Treated like family.”

I can't find fault with this accommodation. I have trouble sleeping at night and asked for a room at the back and upstairs. The room was very quiet at night. There is ongoing construction of a suite downstairs and the noise went throughout the day, at times quite noisy and at other times not bad.… more

I can't find fault with this accommodation. I have trouble sleeping at night and asked for a room at the back and upstairs. The room was very quiet at night. There is ongoing construction of a suite downstairs and the noise went throughout the day, at times quite noisy and at other times not bad. The breakfast was good and the service I had in the restaurant was wonderful and attentive. I enjoyed my stay. I loved all of the staff and the senor who took care of everything that might go wrong was indeed wonderful. You will enjoy your stay here and the price is good. While I do not usually stay in pet friendly hotels, I did not see a pet during my stay.

“Cold in winter”

Overall the hotel is very pleasant, but there is NO HEAT in the room. In January, it was in the low 40s at night and the room was extremely cold. Overall the hotel is very pleasant, but there is NO HEAT in the room. In January, it was in the low 40s at night and the room was extremely cold. There are ample warm blankets, so sleeping was fine, but otherwise being in the room in the evening or morning was not comfortable at all. Our room (#2) was spacious with fun colorful decor and looked out on a pretty courtyard. It had a good bed and very good shower. Breakfast (not included) was good also. It would probably be very nice in warmer weather, but I would not choose it again in the winter. It is just a few blocks from the Zocalo. The last half-block is a kind of deserted dead-end street that made us a little nervous coming home at night, but we didn't have any problems.
