We booked this hotel for 2 night and 4 different rooms. We were very pleased with our stay. The hotel grounds are absolutely gorgeous; I even decided to take photographs of my kids to take advantage of the beautiful backgrounds. The rooms are not run down; they are just rustic which is the style of the hotel and the City of San Miguel de Allende. The rooms were very clean and the staff was very friendly. We loved the food! We ate out in the city twice and decided to have the rest of our meals at the hotel since the food was delicious and authentic. I would recommend this hotel for your next stay.

Exceptionally maintained old property, Great front desk staff, and housekeeping. Rooms with large doors and balconies. My favorite part: the swimming pool. Old school. Large, deep, and cold. The kitchen could have been better, maybe offering gratuitous breakfast? Be prepared to have a vehicle or take cabs. Inexpensive. The roads to and fro are a bit treacherous. Regardless, I strongly recommend the hotel and would go back enthusiastically

“Absolutely fantastic meal in enchanting setting”
Went to hear the guitarist (very good) but was taken aback at how outstanding the food was. My partner usually shares meals but he was not giving up any of his fish prepared Veracruz style. Went to hear the guitarist (very good) but was taken aback at how outstanding the food was. My partner usually shares meals but he was not giving up any of his fish prepared Veracruz style. My Chile rellenos (2) were huge and delicious. I am not a big fan of Mexican rice and beans but these were the best ever, with a touch of sweetness. Server spoke English but more importantly, he was concerned about providing an excellent customer experience. The setting is quiet, albeit large and in a historic setting, making it the perfect place for a romantic, casual, or business meeting. In other words, it was quiet and an easy setting to converse. Plenty of parking. We look forward to returning soon.

There is a hot tub and pool, but note that it closes at 8pm. Did not eat there. No heaters, but they provided extra blankets for our cold night. Unfortunately, the water did not get hot at all during our stay, which was rough, but overall a good experience.

We stayed at Rancho Hotel El Atascadero during a long holiday weekend in San Miguel de Allende. It was a last minute booking so we were looking for something budget friendly and close to the sites. With mixed reviews we didn't know what to expect, but ended up loving our decision to stay here. Some reviews say it is "basic" or "rundown". I choose to label it "rustic". It is true to its hacienda style and is perfectly adequate for a nice stay with family or for a romantic getaway. Another complaint was that it wasn't walkable. While the walk back to the hotel is uphill on a heavily cobbled road that can be tedious after a long day in town, the walk TO town is a great 10 minute downhill stroll that enables you to take in the historic homes along the way. Should you choose to taxi or uber, they are easy to find and extremely cheap for the short ride (and the front desk is happy to call one for you). We found the customer service to be on par with all other locations and a smile and a little effort at Spanish from the vacationer goes a long way. The grounds are beautiful, complete with a nice pool and hot tub. We stayed in February when the nights are colder, so we appreciated the wood-burning fireplace in the room. We will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a charming, budget-friendly place to stay near the action in San Miguel de Allende.
