Stayed here for two nights. It’s in a great location near the Zocala square. Colonial style hotel. My room faced the corridor, so it was quiet. Breakfast was not included in our package but there is buffet and al a carte available. Staff do not speak English very well so there were some misunderstandings with breakfast. Water available to fill water bottles.

“Great location, clean and plenty of character”

Hotel del Portal is located right on the Zocalo in a beautiful old building. Our room on the first floor also had a balcony overlooking the square. Hotel del Portal is located right on the Zocalo in a beautiful old building. Our room on the first floor also had a balcony overlooking the square. The reception staff were helpful and several spoke English. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was a buffet with fresh omelettes made to order. I think there were also a la carte options but we didn't try them. Service was attentive and friendly. Puebla is a beautiful city, would highly recommend a visit!

There are loads of good little hotels in Puebla and this isn’t one of them. It’s right on the Zocalo which means it’s noisy. There are loads of good little hotels in Puebla and this isn’t one of them. It’s right on the Zocalo which means it’s noisy. Goodness knows where the carpark was and the valet parking was very slow the entire time, with only one overworked bellboy. The girl reception staff weren’t very friendly or helpful, couldn’t answer even the most basic tourist questions, and the guy Jorge was positively rude and surly. The room was ok, spotlessly clean with a nice view over the Zocalo for which we paid a bit extra. Buffet breakfast was also ok but a slightly eccentric mix of breakfast and lunch, but included in the room price, so we stuck with it! I wouldn’t go back.

“Simple hotel, great location”

Stayed here as part of tour & was one of the nicer places we stayed at. Lobby & restaurant on entry is very nice however slightly run down rooms. Stayed here as part of tour & was one of the nicer places we stayed at. Lobby & restaurant on entry is very nice however slightly run down rooms. Simple hotel, does the job for a simple place to rest your head- you’re out all day/night exploring the beautiful city anyway! Hot water takes a while to come through, old shower heads not the best water pressure. Nothing is sound proof- noise in hallway, upstairs & rooms next door sounds like they’re walking in your own room, noise from internal restaurant & street echoes very bad!! Can’t fault the location- right opposite the zocalo. Great cafes & restaurants directly under hotel & across road. Walking distance to everything in town- markets, churches & museums. Would probably stay again unless I found something nicer in the same location.
