“Wonderful stay”

Outstanding stay at all levels. Great staff, food excellent and perfect location. Starbucks across the street. Lounge for elites is excellent, as is breakfast. Pool area has a cool vibe. Close to lots of restaurants and shopping in Polanco. 5/5, will be back.

I’m back home after an absolutely amazing stay at the JW Marriott Mexico City Polanco. I cannot say enough amazing things about this property. Here’s some information I hope others will find helpful in choosing this property. Location: The location is IDEAL and in the nicest neighborhood in Mexico City. Polanco is a fashionable, yet not snooty neighborhood with great restaurants, cafes, and shopping with easy access to everything the city has to offer. Property: The property has undergone a complete renovation (with one notable exception - see Executive Lounge below). The renovations are absolutely wonderful and the reimagined spaces and rooms are outstanding. There are still some restaurants yet to be opened, but there is ample food in the hotel and you need to get out and explore the wonderful food in the city as well. Staff: Here is where this property really shines! The staff are so incredibly warm, welcoming and professional. The most remarkable thing I found was that after one interaction with any staff member, they remembered my name throughout the rest of my stay. You just don’t find this anymore, and I’d say this level of hospitality rivals Ritz Carltons in the US. The standouts were the staff in the restaurant. At breakfast every morning I was greeted by name, they asked if I’d like my usual table, and called me by name in every interaction. The front desk staff also remembered me by name and it really makes you feel appreciated and welcomed. Restaurant: For Bonvoy elite status which entitles you to the executive lounge, breakfast is served in the main restaurant — and it was amazing. The breakfast is outstanding with a European style buffet with Mexican selections as well. They also make omelets and smoothies to order and had an amazing natural honeycomb station. And again, the staff here was outstanding. Bar: The bar is small and quaint but very lovely. Bartenders are skilled and attentive, and there was a live solo artist there in the evening. Executive Lounge: This is the one space that didn’t feel refurbished but I was very impressed with the all-day fresh food snack options and full dinner. Yes, I said full dinner. The dinner includes at least one entree, side items, a full salad bar with lovely items and a dessert bar to die for. They serve complimentary wine with dinner. The all day snacks are fresh food canapés, etc. and they also have coffee, tea, sodas and water available during open hours. Rooms: My room was phenomenal. I used a Marriott Suite Night Upgrade award and was awarded a corner city view suite which I was very excited about. I arrived earlier than check-in time and what they had available was a junior suite pool view which I accepted and really liked. I almost wish I’d waited for my city view corner suite to be ready, but I still loved this room. The pool view rooms face an open-air atrium-like setting where the pool is so your view is other rooms and the pool. The room was huge and had ample closet space, a huge desk with special treats from the hotel, a full mini-bar as well as complementary boxed water. The bed was what is expected at JW Marriott - a very plush, comfortable oasis. The bathroom was spacious with a large vanity, huge walk-in shower. As a side note, I walked into some of the surrounding high end hotels on the same street and they are by far not up to par with the JW Marriott. I would highly recommend this property!

Positives: The location is great (walking distance to Polanco restaurants and shops, slightly longer walk to Chapultepec park). Most of the hotel has been newly renovated (although some work appears to be ongoing near the entrance and the meeting areas). Primary restaurant for breakfast is up to par and serves a good buffet. Small but decent bar. Gym has a gender separated dry sauna, steam room which I used everyday. Pool is nice and usable for laps. Negatives: (a) The executive lounge opens only at 11 am! So forget about an early morning coffee or meetings. Tried to have it opened for an important conference call one morning. They showed up 15 mins late. Completed the call in the lobby. A bummer for a Titanium elite member and for a purported 5-star hotel! (although shout out to the gentleman who provides service at the lounge - great guy and I am sorry that I have forgotten his name) (b) The concierge appears to know little about the neighborhood or available services. 2 examples: my son fell sick and I needed to procure some stomach medicine. He had no suggestions for a nearby pharmacy or any way to help. Suggested I take a cab to a location 30 mins away. I walked to the 7-11 down the street and they had everything I needed! On another day, we had a 4:30 departure for a tour. Asked what the options were for coffee/ sandwiches etc. He had no way to assist. The concierge gets 0 stars!!! (c) No gift shop - for the reasons stated above (and others) , you need a place to buy a Band-Aid or other basics in the hotel (ladies - forget about procuring a tampon!!!) . Big miss for a 5-star hotel. (d) The gym - very large number of treadmills and bikes but the weight room is miniscule and PACKED with equipment. Whoever set it up has never strength trained. They have barbells but no place to rack them!! A tiny circular patch on a platform for floor work. Marriott- change the layout of your weight room. It does not work as - is. Overall - choosing to stay here depends on how much you are paying. We paid for a suite and 5-star services and I felt we did not get value for money. If I had paid half the amount, I would have been happy. At this price point, I could have stayed at the Four-Seasons or others and probably received better services.
