“Large rooms for a regular price”
We stayed in a room with a king size bed that matched the king size room that it was in. Older hotel but in nice shape. friendly staff. near a pleasant park that is nice for strolling in. It has a decent restaurant that serves large portions and has a nice breakfast buffet..

I have stayed at the Diplomatico many times over quite a few years - it is my go-to hotel in Mexico City. This is entirely because of its location - in the south of the city, next to Parque Hundido and the nice suburb of Mixcoac - and because it is not expensive for the city and it always has rooms available. Other than that, it's really a minimal kind of place. The rooms are divided between the older rooms and those in a new block at the back. The latter rooms are far better - the old ones are claustrophobic and stuffy. Perhaps the worst thing about the hotel is the desk staff, who I have found consistently unhelpful and sometimes even obstructive and rude, I'm afraid. As one example: the internet does not work in the rooms unless you are very close to reception. On my latest trip, I reported this immediately, and was simply given the run-around for 48 hours, with constant claims that it was being looked into but no resolution. Every time I needed to use the internet I had to go down to the reception area where the signal was effective. So, a basic, basically reliable place, but ultimately not very well run or helpful to guests.

This hotel has a perfect location. It is on the south side of Mexico City, and one of the major avenues of the city, is a few meters from the metro bus, is convenient to the metro, and is close to most things that one might want to visit. At the same time, it is in a nice neighborhood, where one can walk and enjoy Mexico City. That perfection, however, is marred by spotty service. The hotel has a lot of personnel, such that the lobby is full of attendants, each with a different purpose. The front desk is uneven… People can be helpful or not, and they can be pleasant or surly. The room service can take a long time, even for a simple request like a glass of milk. The rooms are OK… Clean, certainly, but the fixtures are beginning to age, and the air-conditioner is quirky, although fairly quiet. The TV remote control didn’t work, and lots of little details like that. So, overall, given the price, this is a pretty darn good hotel at which to stay. Given what it could be, one would think that the owners are a little bit dumb… With a major rework and re-plan of management, they could be making twice as much money off of this hotel with tons of potential.
