Excellent Hotel, everythign was perfect. The rooms were very clean,the staff was always so atentive of our needs. And the breakfest buffet was delicious, a very big variety of sweet bread, eggs, chilaquiles and charquitery, the VIP floor was also very nice, always open to grab a quick refreshment or coffee. “Nice but Noisy”

We stayed at the hotel for two nights in room 218. The hotel is modern and in a nice location with restaurants and shops nearby. Checking in was friendly and efficient. The room was clean and had a nice, big closet. The bathroom had a large shower; however, the water pooled on the shower floor and did not drain. Also, the hot water took a long time and then the temperature varied dramatically. The shampoo and shower gel was in small, wasteful plastic bottles. There was not any conditioner, and there were no washcloths. The biggest issue was noise. The room was right able conference rooms where there was extremely loud music that vibrated our floor. Also, we heard everything from nearby rooms and people in the halls as well as the traffic noise outside that came through clearly. The breakfast buffet was nice and had many many choices.

For being ostensibly a higher-end hotel, the service at Barcelo Mexico Reforma falls short of expectations, from the bellhops to the concierge to the front desk to housekeeping to maintenance. The bellhops did not offer to help with luggage out of my taxi or uo the first set of stairs -- or even so much as hold the doors open for us when entering. It was only once inside that a bellhop offered to carry our luggage up the final set of stairs and roll it to the check-in desk. The front desk checked my wife and I into a room with double beds, instead of a room with a king bed -- although our booked room type could have been either. No acknowledgment that this was the only room type remaining. But whatever, my wife and I have slept on smaller beds before -- but probably not since college and certainly not in a hotel at this price point. But the bigger issue was the noise. As part of the city's pre-NYE festivities, there was a carnival with rides set up in the street immediately adjacent to the hotel. That's all fun and all, except for one of the carnival barkers for a children's carousel ride who may as well have been a hype man for a monster truck series. We heard him at well over 70 dB -- until 2am every night! But not one single acknowledgment (let alone an apology!) from the front desk staff. Well OK, we couldn't go to sleep until 2am, but at least we could sleep in? NO! Housekeeping is banging on your door at 8am sharp! Or not -- every other day, they'd come at 3pm for some reason. No rhyme or reason. As for maintenance, neither our heater or our minifridge worked. We called the front desk about both. Maintenance came to fix the heater; the fridge was never fixed. And then the concierge. We had approached them about booking a trip to Teotihuacan. The concierge gave us the info and we "booked" for a morning pickup in two days... Which involved him simply writing our room number on a brochure. He assured us that he would provide us with a confirmation that evening; no confirmation came. We approached the concierge desk the following afternoon. It was unmanned for about 10 minutes until some employee came over and told us to just be ready for a pickup at 9:30am the next morning, without looking into our booking. That was false and misleading at best, since our tour was for a sunrise event. He again wrote our info on a brochure and assured us that he would call our room within 5-10 minutes. We waited by our phone for an hour; no call. By then, we had decided to make alternative plans for the next day and headed to dinner at 7pm. Upon arriving back from dinner, we found a confirmation slipped under our door, for a 5am pickup the next morning. The entire concierge team overpromised and underdelivered and was highly unprofessional throughout. The one good thing is the Sonora Grill restaurant. It's actually unexpectedly good
