Color me surprised to find a 5* experience in Guanajuato. The stay was exceptional in every facet, from the rooms to the staff and the restaurant. Look no further, book this for your next stay. Rooms We were in awe of the spaciousness of the multi-story master suite. The sunken living room has a desk, couch and TV, and leads to an outside balcony with lounge chairs and table seating. The king size bed had its own TV, and the large shower in the bathroom had strong water pressure. Comforting robes and slippers made for a spa-like experience in your very own bedroom. Restaurant We enjoyed daily breakfast and a nice dinner at the restaurant. Despite different meals, the result was the same. Attentive, friendly service. Never an empty water glass and someone always there to clear an empty plate. This was very different from all of the other meals in town where it was difficult to find the waiter. Both breakfast and dinner surprised us with an extensive menu. Traditional chilaquiles made just like home cooking , offered with green or red salsa. Yogurt with berries and granola was refreshing, and made to order omelets had plenty of toppings to make a unique creation daily. Dinner was enjoyed by all, from the perfectly cooked steaks to the tasty pasta and risotto. Even the burger was thick and juicy if you yearn for American fare. Spa We enjoyed a couples massage. The treatment room was nicely appointed with jacuzzi and shower both in the room. Different levels of firmness were offered, suiting our personal preference. A great stress-reducing experience. Grounds It is no wonder why various films have used this hotel as a background. Styled like an Italian retreat, the gardens and flowers, available outdoor seating and plenty of fresh light make the passage from entry to room a serene experience. Location We appreciated being away from the loud city center with mariachi bands playing all night. Located a 25 minute walk or 12 minute taxi ride from downtown, the hotel is in a higher-end suburb with large Spanish style homes. The front desk can call a taxi and within 5 minutes you are on your way. 70 peso ($3.50 at time of writing) was the one-way fare. An OXXO mini-market is a 3 minute walk away for any needs, though the hotel has a stocked mini fridge with sodas. If you are coming to Guanajuato this should be the only place you consider staying.

Superb hotel. Absolutely stunning property, colonial architecture with mountain backdrop in elegant if not the nicest section of Guanajuato, within 15 minute walking distance to centro. Mr. Lapp, the GM, does a truly impeccable job of making this a luxury experience. The rooms are gorgeous (the beds are super comfortable!) and every detail is accounted for: flowers, chocolates and even flip flops for the pool are among the things that you'll have waiting for you in the room. The on porch dining generates more of the colonial feeling, with staff pandering to your every wish. Juan Alberto, andJuan Jose both gentlemen who have been working at VMC for years can't help but spoil you. I could go on, but suffice it to say if you're in Guanajuato this is a MUST.. it is true treat. You might never leave the hotel. Bravo Mr. Lapp!

This is a lovely hotel, we've stayed at a few times now before an early morning flight out of Leon (20 min drive away, at 4am). The hotel grounds are beautiful, and the staff is mostly friendly. The rooms range in size, this time we did not get any upgrade as this hotel is no longer (Sadly) part of the Hyatt chain. We once had a room with it's own private patio, and two soaker tubs in 2 different bathrooms. THAT was amazing. This time we had a regular room with a tub and it was still very nice. We like the turn down service, and did not sure the spa or pools this time but they are available. My only complaint is they charge per cup of coffee used in the room. It's taky, and I wouldn't expect to get nickle-and-dimed like that in one of the most expensive hotels in town. The inroom coffee, if you decide to pay per pod, is a Nespresso.

“Very disappointed ! No thermal baths or jacuzzi s that worked”

Very disappointed. 5 friends stayed here for two nights. We selected this hotel because of the thermal baths and jacuzzis. Unfortunately NONE of them had hot water. The staff was indifferent and not even remotely apologetic or concerned. Restaurant at the villa was average. Many other places in tow… more

The staff was indifferent and not even remotely apologetic or concerned. Restaurant at the villa was average. Many other places in town that deliver on what they promise…try them instead.
