Let me start by saying this is not a 5 star resort. When we arrived we were immediately met with dishonesty by the front desk. We were told our room was not ready, although it was around 3:00 pm. It appears that we were told this so we could be ushered over to another desk to talk to a gentlemen about setting up an appointment to listen to a pitch for their membership program. They made up think we were going over for hotel orientation.; not true. Once he was done we were given our wrist bands and room card keys. Immediately upon entering the room, there was a strong smell of mold and mildew. We thought it may just be because it had been closed up, and also because the air conditioning was up too high and the room was super warm, musty and humid. We were not able to change the thermostat, so had to go down to the front desk to request maintenance. Tried to call down, but the phone in the room was not working. Had to go back down again after initial request to request help. Maintenance finally arrived around 9:00 pm. The room cooled off but the smell did not leave. We discovered that the back of the curtains were covered with mold/mildew. This was so disgusting and put a damper on our vacation. The food we tried at Essence was not very good, and the portions were small. There are no great options for food on the resort. The reservation system for dinner is not very efficient. And besides, who wants to have to make a reservation every day for dinner? There should be an easier process. The drinks were all watered down, so we did not drink most of the ones we ordered, just let them sit on the table. The positives are that the property was very lush, green, and well maintained. Most of the staff was very nice. The best thing the property had to offer was the breakfast buffet at Le Brise. This is by no means a 5 star luxury resort, and we did not have a 5 star experience. I would choose another resort if I decided to return to Puerto Vallarta.
