We had a junior suite. Was wonderful. Hotel is exceptional made mostly by the wonderful staff who were so kind and helpful. Meals in the restaurant were lovely and wine was flowing. Lovely colonial atmosphere. I suppose the only thing, would have been lovely to be welcomed with some local fruit as it is famous for this and vegetables in the area. Loved our stay.

I loved loved loved this hotel, thank you for making us feel so welcome! The team overall were extremely welcoming and helpful, and we had a great time using the facilities. Special shout out to Madi who was a great guide for the Jim Thompson Mystery Tour (even though we found the Jim Thompson bit incidental to the jungle trail our guide had designed himself, which was the highlight!) and the reception and front door teams were impeccably friendly and helpful. Drinks in the bar were reasonably priced for the location, but we thought this and breakfast at the restaurant could have had clearer points of service. For example, we were very confused on the first morning as to what we were “allowed” to have for breakfast as this wasn’t explained to us at the start. This felt similar at the bar when we wanted drinks as opposed to afternoon tea - it wasn’t clear if it was table service or bar service, and wasn’t clear if we could just grab a seat for drinks. Another issue was intermittent road noise, particularly overnight. We felt this was because the hotel faces a long straight on the main road so (very occasionally) cars were noisily racing or overtaking at night. The hotel provides ear plugs but this wasn’t enough. We felt a few strategically placed road bumps would have solved the issue - and created a safer section of road for guests to cross the road to the golf course opposite! Small niggles aside, the hotel room, facilities, and setting were truly outstanding, and has created a real atmosphere of luxury. We have been utterly charmed and will be back. “Like A Friend’s Home”

We received a warm welcome into the hotel. It was like coming to a friend’s home; into their living room. It’s a very old hotel, but rooms have been kept in good order. The food was fine. We received a warm welcome into the hotel. It was like coming to a friend’s home; into their living room. It’s a very old hotel, but rooms have been kept in good order. The food was fine. Fancy servings, but perhaps average taste. The free walking tour took us around the golf course. Pleasant walk with a kindly naturalist resident. Apparently there are tigers roaming in the area at night.🐅 My negative point is the front stairs of the hotel. Quite a steep set of stairs, for those with a disability may find this very trying. I asked the front desk and apparently there is wheelchair access at the back of the building.

Overall I wouldn’t recommend staying here. It focuses on appearance but the actual experience is one I’d choose to avoid, we felt it was poor value, the breakfast and dinner food was dull and expensive. The first offering of coffee was undrinkable. Beers and wine are expensive; the wine eye-wateringly so at c. 400% mark up. On the upside, the rooms and interior of the hotel are plush and the staff are kind, helpful and attentive, particularly those on reception. The view from the hotel is good, opposite the golf course. There is a big focus on recreating the English country house ‘colonial’ hotel and service eg white table linen, waiters in white jackets, resident pianist, library, leather sofas etc. Our room was upgraded on arrival - nice touch and a lovely bonus. Crisp bed linen etc etc. Free treated drinking water is provided in the room but the taste is strong enough to make the tea undrinkable. Other in-room drinks and snacks are expensive. There are no offerings to eat for dinner that are less than around 80RM per person. Personally I don’t want to eat shepherd’s pie or chicken pie in Malaysia. We chose to share a bag of crisps the next night rather than repeat a dull meal for a high cost. Beers and wine are expensive; the wine eye-wateringly so at c. 400% mark up. I’d suggest that a better offering for guests would be to completely overhaul the menu to offer a broader range at much lower prices to encourage guests to eat in. If they really want to offer the country house hotel experience provide all day complementary tea, coffee, bottled water, biscuits and fruit. Ditch the koi ponds, ditch the mood music, ditch the high prices, ditch the towel swans.
