I stayed at Pinewood Beach Resort for 7 nights for a laid back week after a full on safari. The first thing I must do is give a massive shout out to the staff, particularly Phyllis, John, Fred, Wycliffe, Nathaniel and Eunice in the restaurant, Nimrod and Bakhari at the bars and Suleiman for the nature walk. Thank you for making my stay so special, especially feeding the fish, sharing your knowledge about the weaver birds, such wonderful friendly smiles and serving some lovely cocktails! Pinewood Beach Resort is ideal if you are looking for somewhere a little quieter and centred around nature. The hotel is off the main road in Diani, a little down a dirt road and all the more tranquil for it. The setting is beautiful, entering through gardens and a fish pond and then through to the restaurant and a lounge down to the rooms, pool and eventually, the beautiful beach. I enjoyed watching the weaver birds every breakfast as they went about tirelessly making their nests. The food was excellent all week, with different themed nights and different settings providing variety throughout. The menu is large and being on all inclusive, I had plenty of choice and was not wanting for anything. The drink options are also plentiful - I would recommend the "Simba" cocktail - it is delicious but rather potent! Water, tea and coffee was always readily available (and free of charge) around the site too. The room was immaculate and provided everything I could possibly need. I loved my balcony overlooking the garden and would advise that when the staff tell you to ensure doors are closed...the monkeys really are cheeky and will come right up to you whilst you're on your balcony so I have no doubt they would be straight into your room given the opportunity! There is lots of other life about including the Columbus monkey, ibis birds, bush babies, hermit crabs and of course the little black cat who enjoys keeping guests company and chasing crabs on the beach! The beach is beautiful, again with lovely spaces to admire the scenery. The hotel have done an good job at striking a deal with the beach boys who did stay away from guests on the hotel controlled section...however I will say that the second you step over the boundary, they are in pursuit. I do understand that they are trying to make a living but it was a little irritating - but the hotel are doing a great job of managing it. The "Tourist Police" are also about at night on the beach (for all of the resorts, not just Pinewood) and on two occasions said hello to me and checked that I "felt safe" when I was at the beach side of the hotel and one also stopped for a chat...on checking with the hotel they do keep an eye on the hotels to just make sure everything is secure. Finally, I would highly recommended the woodland walk with Suleiman - it was a great chance to have a look further along the beach and then up to the Kaya Kinindo Sacred Forest which was an unexpected treat in itself. Thank you to all at Pinewood for a wonderful stay. With any luck I will be able to visit again in the future!

“A Little Piece of Paradise”

We arrived at Pinewood after a 6 day safari through the Rift Valley looking forward to a week of peace & quiet before our flights back to the Uk. And that is exactly what Pinewood offers. Reached via an unmade road a km along the Diani Beach it is a remote family built & owned hotel village. Right from our arrival we felt like we had been transported to an oasis of calm with all your needs catered for. The accommodation is set in a mature garden & arranged in groups of three to a ‘house’. Ours was a standard & was equipped with the usual fridge, tea/coffee, safe, nets, huge bed, spacious first floor room & a lovely balcony with lounge chairs & a day bed. The hotel felt quiet though was probably quiet full with, I guess, 25 to 30 couples but we had the feeling of having the place to ourselves. Beautifully landscaped with the main restaurant & lounge but also offering a swimup pool bar & snack area & then a further covered occasional restaurant & a further day time beach bar & restaurant equipt with a wood fired pizza oven. We were All Inclusive & the food was wonderful. International & Kenyan dishes with a rotation of themes & restaurants with a dozen chefs ready to serve & advise you. A private beach area under thatched sun shades & coconut palms which was never more than half full & a white sandy beach that rivals any in the Maldives. But what made Pinewood so special was the extensive staff who were always ready to provide a first class service & prided themselves on remembering our names & room number. Special thanks during our stay go to: Eunis at the beach bar, always friendly. Masaka at the pool bar, ready with local language lessons . Patrick the gardener, keen to point out the plants, flowers & wildlife. Freddie on beach towels, so lovely & helpful. John our waiter, always attentive . And Evan’s the housekeeping manager (also an Arsenal supporter) for arranging our extended stay. Thankyou to you all. It was also reassuring to see the Pinewood owner & architect in attendance every day. So If you want peaceful luxury with super attentive staff then you will love Pinewood.

“Beautiful, peaceful beachside resort”

Pinewood has a calm, tranquil presence which puts you at ease straight away. Set on a stunning beach away from the crowds. The apartments are very comfortable and clean. The pool, bars and restaurants are lovely and all set within a quiet village atmosphere.

“Amazing”

What an amazing place for relaxing. We really enjoyed our stay a lot. The rooms are big, may be not fancy modern, but clean and in good condition. The garden all around the resort is amazing and a lot of people taking care for it. A nice paradise. We tried a lot of different food in the restauran… more

The garden all around the resort is amazing and a lot of people taking care for it. A nice paradise. We tried a lot of different food in the restaurants and everything was fresh, tasty and delicious. Doesn’t matter if it was the main, the pool or the beach restaurant. Finally the staff is amazing! Perfectly organised, perfectly trained, super friendly and helpful. Only thing you need to know, it’s far away from the city center and a bad street to drive and there is seaweed in the ocean but the beach is cleaned every morning. Thank you so much! We loved it.
