You have to take the portline (similar to a monorail) to reach the hotel from central Kobe. The hotel is pretty big with three restaurants on the top floor. “Portopia”

Aircon is centralised. Ŕoom was warm. Water in bathroom does not drain after shower. Need to pay 4000yen to use hotel facilities like the fitness spa, pool and hot springs. Location not ideal for holiday makers as I do not see any amenities nearby. Service was average. Suitable for business people.

We recently stayed at Portopia Hotel and unfortunately, have mixed feelings about our experience. Let's start with the positives. The hotel staff was fantastic, always attentive and willing to help. They made our stay more enjoyable and were a highlight of the experience. Now, onto the not-so-great aspects. The bed in our room was incredibly hard, almost like sleeping on concrete. It was so uncomfortable that we had to request a room change. However, the new room only had a thin mattress protector as an addition, which didn't improve the situation much. This made getting a good night's sleep quite challenging. Another issue I encountered was the size of the rooms. At 180cm tall, I felt like a giant in the room. The ceilings were low, and I had to constantly bend down to look out the windows. It was a bit cramped and not the most comfortable setting. The bathroom in the room was exceptionally small. Sitting on the toilet, you couldn't close the door and be comfortable at the same time. Additionally, the shower was powerful, which was a positive, but it was an in-bath shower with a shower curtain. This setup was not enjoyable, as the curtain tended to move around while showering. We stayed in a 'Club' room on the higher floors, which offered nice views of Kobe city. The Club lounge on the 26th floor served breakfast with both Japanese and Western options. However, many of the items were only labeled in Japanese, making it difficult for non-Japanese to fully understand what was being served. The other food options in the lounge were reasonable, but limited throughout the day. For dinner, we tried Soco, the hotel's buffet restaurant. The food was okay with a decent variety, but we felt that there are other places in the area that offer much better dining experiences. On another occasion, we dined at Shukei En, the Chinese restaurant, and it was simply amazing. Despite the restaurant being quiet, the food exceeded our expectations. In summary, Portopia Hotel feels like a convention hotel, and the rooms reflect that. While the staff was exceptional and the Chinese restaurant stood out, the uncomfortable bed, small rooms, and subpar dining options left something to be desired. If you're attending an event or convention, the hotel might serve its purpose, but if you're looking for a more comfortable and luxurious stay, you might want to explore other options in the area.
