Our family of 3 stayed at Hotel Nikko Alivila for 2 nights during hot summer July. Overall experience was wonderful especially the convenient beach access (Nirai beach) as we were travelling with a toddler who loves swimming so we were basically rotating from beach and swimming pool back and forth. We also tried the buffet and Japanese breakfast which I think is below average. View from the room was pretty - I gather most rooms would be ocean facing and all lovely. Parking was also easy, right next to the hotel building. Service also great - one of the waiters at the Japanese restaurant actually drew Anpanman characters for my son when he was fussy. The only negative comment is the fact that there weren't enough laundry facility for all guests as a resort hotel - imagine the volume of guests wanting to wash their swimming gear. It was a pain to wait for a free washing machine/dryer. I experienced some hotels which have a 2-in-1 washing machine/dryer which much more time efficient - perhaps the management should look into this? Nonetheless would definitely love to stay in this hotel again.

“Not for foreigners!”

We don't understand why this hotel even has an english website, if literally the 99% of the staff does not speak english language at all.The japanese politeness is legendary,so how in the world the hotel can not teach it's team even the basics to interact with guests? It is very impolite and mean approach. Found annoying and embarrassing that at each meal while we were trying to order/figure out the menu, the waiters kept answering in japanese to us... Even the receptionists don't speak english and they try to use tablet with Google translator that either does not work or misunderstands them which results long wait for the simpliest questions.... Why this hotel even accepts reservations from foreigners? What makes the situation ridiculous that the property located at Okinawa which is the base of some 80.000 US military personnel since decades, so locals really had the opportunity to pick up some english in their everyday life... Also the prices are higher than in 5star Hilton downtown Tokyo, while quality of food and overall service is incomparable for sure.

The place is pretty, but the service is bad for a 4-star place. The whole place feels like it runs on minimizing the staff's effort. Expect for dinner everything is self-serve. The hotel does have a bar, but it's not open at night. They also have a relax pool that is not open. A good example of this lack of service is when I went to the little "food truck" next to the pool, trying to order a drink. The three employees working there told me they open at 3 p.m., so I needed to come back later. It was 2:56. With better management and a refresh after 30 years, this place could be a 4-star. Right now its not.
