Family of 5 (1 couple plus 2 grown kids and 1 infant)We love our stay at Hotel New Hankyu! It's right across Kyoto station so it's very convenient to go to places. It is also just 10 minutes away to Gion disctrict and Higashiyama so we just took the cab going to those places. Staff are very friendly and speak english very well. We stayed at the 4th floor non smoking room and the room is pretty big, the beds are big too! The room we stayed at is newly renovated. They cleaned our room everyday and even changed our beddings and towels daily. They also provided bottled water everyday. I wished I had asked what brand of body wash and hand wash they had because they smelled really good.

Good room, comfortable and had enough space. Breakfast downstairs was okay but overpriced, great local restaurants though, definitely check out the Kyoto Sando tower next door where food is super cheap and amazing! Main problem with our hotel room was the air conditioning temperature cannot be adjusted in your room. It has a panel to adjust it however temp doesn’t change. Got told it’s centrally set by the hotel and it was quite warm due to this. We had to get a staff member to come and open the emergency window so we could have some ventilation due to the aircon problem. Hopefully they fix that soon, wouldn’t return to do that as too stuffy in the rooms.

“Great for centrality but a bit outdated”

We booked it for its centrality, it’s almost unbeatable, but the hotel itself in the rooms is pretty outdated compared to competitors. We booked it for its centrality, it’s almost unbeatable, but the hotel itself in the rooms is pretty outdated compared to competitors. The aircon was only on heat mode, which we found unbeatable and in this day and age is very undated. The carpets looked to be needing replacement about ten years ago. Walls were kind of thin. Buffet was probably the worst we’d had across the six hotels of our trip. Very bland. We skipped it on the last two days here. We did expect a little bit more than what we experienced. Staff were lovely though, and are likely aware of the situation, up to management to update it but they probably get enough business to warrant not bothering for another decade.

One of the older establishments, with decor from the 80s. Staff were polite and helpful and never had to wait for a lift. While this hotel is in a great location - literally across the road from the Train Station - it is beginning to show its age. I found the walls a bit thin, and anyone on the floor above could be heard walking across the room.
