Large, properly staffed hotel with a wonderful personal touch. I was very impressed by one of the front desk lady who walked me all the way to the drug store when I told her I needed some medicine. She even offered to walk me to the clinic! The same lady managed to arrange a room massage within 2 hours notice! Such was their service level. Room was a tad tight for 3 but the beds were comfortable. There is a nice lounge and a small drink area to chill. There are some nice restaurants on the 2nd floor. Breakfast has a decent spread, including freshly cooked egg omelette! Tsuruya mall is across the road with many food choices including Din Tai Fung!

“Delightful & comfortable room”

What a shame it’s only one night. We arrived by taxi having had a busy day touring from Yufuin via Takachiho Gorge. What a shame it’s only one night. We arrived by taxi having had a busy day touring from Yufuin via Takachiho Gorge. We took a tram back to train station on departure as it's a bit far to walk with luggage. Staff took our bags and we were quickly ensconced in our lovely room. No view of the castle but a relatively spacious room and luxurious bathroom. I think if you booked a higher floor you would have a view of the castle. Two king single beds again but at least there’s heaps of room and storage for all our stuff. A shame it’s only one night because it’s a buzzing place with a castle and what looks like interesting streets to explore. We returned our car here, so killing 2 birds with once stone and picking up the JR Shinkansen train. A nice change from GPS or google maps, let someone else worry about speed limits. Well laid out room with a bath and shower, a bigger standard room. Easy walking distance to castle, 10 minute tram to station and absolutely superb staff who happily helped us. Pretty but small city. Definitely need 2 or 3 nights as it's charming city with a sensational Castle with an informative display.

I stayed at the Hotel Nikko Kumamoto for 1 night in a Standard King, Class comfort with castle view. It’s a solid 4* hotel in a super convenient location, with the Torichisuji tram and bus stop literally right outside the hotel. It’s about a 15min walk to the closest gate of Kumamoto Castle, or you can take the tram 1 stop. Highlights included a big room with beautiful view of the castle, comfortable bed and a nice chaise by the window to enjoy the view. The room also had a Nespresso machine and all the toiletries one would expect in a nice Japanese hotel. There were a few details lacking that made it short of a 5*, for example the glass on my shower door was no longer clear and needed replacing. The hotel does not have a gym or Onsen so you are choosing this hotel for the overall high quality, the convenient location and the beautiful castle view. I found the hotel to be very good value for the quality, and would stay here again.

The connection door when opened we couldn’t walk in our room! Only stayed 1 nite so ok Breakfast very limited choice. Only simple black coffee which was a bit disappointing. Luckily there were many coffee shops closed by.
