The Luminous Hotel Sannomiya is a excellently located, new/modern, affordable hotel. Though the rooms are rather small, they are nicely appointed, and the bathrooms are super functional. There are literally hundreds of restaurants within walking distance, along with shopping arcades and stores of all types. The hotel has a coin laundry for those planning an extended stay. My only demerit is insanely expensive/limited parking, and priced seperately, the breakfast buffet is expensive, and oddly flavorless.

Very close to two stations which is great! Staff is very nice but will come in room even with dnd signs on door to ask if cleaning is needed. Hotel is nice outside but very OLD inside. Solo room is very very small but double room is bigger. AC units are old! They have a mobile AC unit and a central air one which I had to turn on both to keep the room cool. Never got to the temp I wanted but it was manageable. Bathroom is decent, shower is great! Bed is decent. I stayed for 6 days and had NO WIFI due to the side of my room. Literally my side of the hotel had no internet but the other side did. Anytime I needed to use internet, I had to go to the lobby. They stated that "they cannot control this" which is kind of insane for 2024. Definitely safe area and about 4min walk from DCM which is a huge appliance/grocery store. Also a convenient store (Lawson) 2min walk away and is 24hrs. Overall, I would not stay again since there were some other ones I stayed at which felt more modern and were amazing! (Kobe Sannomiya Tokyu REI Hotel) and (Comfort Hotel ERA Kobe Sannomiya) Both had WIFI throughout the building at all times! Rooms were much bigger. Also had way more food options to choose from.

Finding a hotel for our two nights in Kobe proved more difficult than expected, so we had to cast the net a little more widely. In doing so, we found the Kobe Luminous Hotel, a few minutes’ walk from Hyogo station to the south west of the city centre. Our room was small (we had to move the coffee table out of the way to both sit down!), but reasonably equipped and clean. Breakfast was very hectic both mornings, and the staff seemed unable to maintain the stocks of food. As such, it was a bit of a gamble each time you visited the buffet, as you often had to pick what was there, rather than what you might have wanted. The laundry facilities were located in a shed-like structure outside in the car park, which didn’t make for the most enjoyable usage, especially when the dryer took multiple cycles to dry the clothes. On the upside, it was only a few minutes’ walk to JR Hyogo Station, which has a couple of decent supermarkets immediately on the opposite side. The staff were cheerful enough at check in/out, gladly looking after our luggage when we arrived early, but you got the feeling that the hotel needs a little investment. It certainly suffered in comparison to similarly-priced hotels elsewhere on our visit.
