Me and 2 brothers have booked for 1 week on April 2020. It was quiet and kinda empty due to pandemic, but all the experience was fantastic. The price was cheap and well-located. Not every staffs can speak english but gladly we had someone who speak/know japanese a little. There are free coffee and hot/cold water and cocoa powder too if you want. Unfortunately, I think tea wasn't available there. About the rooms, we took the tatami room and it was a little crowded for 3 people, but we could manage it somehow. The bathroom is small and not so comfortable for taller people like me, but nothing that could makes the experience bad. There's air conditioner and towels are available and changed everyday. The staff didn't told us when we arrived about the cleaning time (everyday at 12am) and we got scared when the staff knocked the door out of nowhere, asking us if we want him to clean the bedroom. Anyway, we totally recommend this place!

I booked this hotel as I was traveling alone for the Tokyo Marathon. Its a quiet hotel affordable with good wifi and clean. Yes it's small but for just me that's all I needed. From a location point of view it is great as its about a 5 minute walk from Ikabukuro train station. I had a Japanese style room but was given the choice. The staff speak good English which for a luddite like me is important. The only random thing I did have was a massive key ring for the key to the room. I was expecting a key card but that's just me being petty. Good friendly hotel

Must try ramen at Ikebukuro area, very thick soup type of ramen. * there is laundry coin on the basement of the hotel

Hotel Changtee is a compact hotel in a quiet-ish part of Ikebukuro. It is a short walk to the JR station, there are plenty of restaurants around the area, so location is perfect and relatively downtown. The hotel room itself is compact, but has its own washroom and tub/shower. One sleeps on a futon… more

Hotel Changtee is a compact hotel in a quiet-ish part of Ikebukuro. It is a short walk to the JR station, there are plenty of restaurants around the area, so location is perfect and relatively downtown. The hotel room itself is compact, but has its own washroom and tub/shower. One sleeps on a futon on a tatami mat. If it's your first time doing this, enjoy the experience. The air conditioner is required in the summer months, there are instructions however they changed the manufacturer of the remote so we had to Google translated instructions, after that it worked fine. There is a large overhead light, also with a remote, but the instructions were in the hotel's booklet. The room was made every day, it was clean, and there were slippers provided. There isn't a lot of room for luggage storage in the room, but we didn't plan to spend much time indoors anyway. For two adults and a teenage traveller, it was just the right size and just what we needed to start our trip. Finally, the front desk staff are conversant in English, we had no check-in issues, and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

This is probably as affordable as it gets in Tokyo proper for a private room with its own toilet...the location 15 minutes walk from Ikebukuro station is convenient and the area is full of diverse eating establishments...the area is, however, a little dirty for Japan standards...the hotel room was just basic...barely enough space to move, only one electric outlet, and an airplane size toilet...it was clean enough and more than adequate for a night or two...staff are very good at English and friendly...if you're looking for just a place to sleep for cheap, this will be fine...
