“May hotel review”

This hotel was average. Nothing special about it. The plus side was that it was not too far from the train station. They do have a lot of mini marts inside and places to eat. Overall clean and safe. The rooms are small as expected. Breakfast buffet food was the same the whole time. Doesn’t change.

Staying here for 4 nights. One night pre-organised tour and three nights as part of the tour. On arrival, the place was chaotic so say the least ! Staying here for 4 nights. One night pre-organised tour and three nights as part of the tour. On arrival, the place was chaotic so say the least ! Large tour groups speaking various languages blocked the main walkway from the front door. Discovering Reception was on level 3, we battled our way there. Attempting to sign in was interesting....it's all done at a kiosk. Trying to explain we had booked the first night and then join a tour group, was also fun. The one staff member (and there were plenty) who could speak fluent English helped through the comedy. . As we had booked a "superior" double room and paid over $300 for it, hopes were highfor a nice room with a bath. Well, that was soon shattered when we walked in to what was a tiny room with no wardrobe , no drawers, no iron/or board, and a bed withone side pushed up againt the wall. The bathroom, while functional and clean, was the size of the missing wardrobe ! Yes, the bath tub was there - big enough to stand in while having a shower ! . Breakfast at $22 a head was adequate, but nothing to rave about. Battling the tour groups once again was fun. The TV has NO English channels - not even news ones. Good luck if you don't speak Japanese. . Clearly this is the hotel of choice for tour companies who no doubt get a great rate. . My suggestion is to find somewhere else and only turn up here when your tour starts. The location is good and there are plenty of nearby eateries.

As you are probably aware, the Japanese people are small of stature, so Japanese architects are trained to design dwellings with shoebox dimensions. We suspect the rooms in the Shinjuku Washington Hotel in Tokyo feature prominently in the training manual. We were fortunate to have a slightly larger room on the curved end of the hotel, most are plain rectangular boxes. The small entrance corridor doubles as your wardrobe, is home to the humidifier and another mystery unit, possibly a heater, and the entrance to your small modular bathroom. The bathroom, whilst small is functional, with the obligatory heated toilet/bidet, bath/shower and vanity basin. You may also need to boil your kettle here, so logistic layout and roster planning is essential. The rest of the room houses your double bed, prepare to be trampled as access is limited to one side, and a couple of uncomfortable chairs. So practice your synchronised breathing and prepare for encounters of the close bodies variety. The highlight of the hotel is probably the breakfast venue on the 25th floor with its scenic view of the Tokyo CBD. The buffet breakfast scores a 9 out 10 for environment, 6 out of 10 for variety and quality, and the usual 2 out of 10 for the temperature of the hot breakfast fare. Another potential plus are the small restaurants on the lower floor for lunch and dinner, although the choice is limited. The location is good close to the government buildings with its two free city observation towers, nightly light show and landscaped gardens and parks. Check-in is slow, check-out is lightning fast. Unable to comment on the tariff but in retrospect we would probably be looking for a hotel with bigger rooms. “My foot has gone numb, you must be standing on it, dearest!”
