Here right now. It’s our 3rd day in Shibuya, first visit to Japan and this hotel is great. Friend and I took the limousine bus from Narita and were dropped off at the front door. We’re in a twin room which yes, is a little smaller than what we are used to but perfectly fine as we are not here much but to sleep. The room is very clean. Beds comfy and bathroom has been perfect for us. Shampoo, conditioner and soap provided in room are excellent and I’m going to try and buy the same brand. Location is amazing. For our first trip we wanted to be in the midst of things and be able to walk wherever. We can! We’re on the 23rd floor, can’t hear any street noise at all. Not a view of the crossing but can easily get there or to a window that views it. Check in and front desk staff have been incredible, very friendly and helpful. Love that there’s a 7-11 and Starbucks about 1 minute away. I don’t find the hotel to be dated and maybe I have simpler tastes but I’ll take clean and comfy any day. I also used points to pay for part of the stay so maybe not spending a huge amount helps. Location is so convenient! I’d stay here again in a heartbeat. Maybe the only thing I would change is to see about the 3 person room to have one bed for the extra suitcase I am filling up!

This hotel has a fantastic location right on the Shibuya scramble crossing but just far enough back that you have some respite from the madness. It does all the basics well. Check-in was prompt, easy and professional. My room was a single and it was certainly small but had a great view from the 16th floor over the Shibuya skyline and the lifts of course have great views of the crossing. Getting to ground level was a little difficult with either a small lift or a number of escalators, and Uber pick-up seems to be impossible from the main drop-off area for some reason. But staff were very helpful at arranging taxi pick-ups and helping with the destination. Would definitely stay again.

“Stay here for the views and location”

Hotel was decent and staff excellent, no problems at all. There's a bus directly from Haneda Airport that will pretty much take you to the door of this hotel. The big win is the location of the hotel (right on Shibuya crossing) and the views from the room, spectacular. Price very reasonable too. No… more

Hotel was decent and staff excellent, no problems at all. There's a bus directly from Haneda Airport that will pretty much take you to the door of this hotel. The big win is the location of the hotel (right on Shibuya crossing) and the views from the room, spectacular. Price very reasonable too. Not a huge amount of space in the rooms, but OK for Tokyo

Choosing a hotel in Tokyo can be a daunting experience. Tokyo is a vast city, and major attractions are spread out all over the city. There are also many options for the traveller. Hotels can be expensive, and rooms small, so it is essential to choose wisely to maximise comfort and enjoyment in this very busy but fabulous city. We chose the Shibuya Exel Hotel for a number of reasons. Firstly, its location suited us. The hotel is beside the well-known ‘Shibuya Scramble’ - Tokyo’s busiest and most famous street crossing. During its busiest times, an estimated 1,000 to 2,500 people forge their way across this intersection every two minutes. Vast crowds visit this crossing just to experience the phenomenon which gave rise to its nickname "scramble," as pedestrians cross from all directions. Secondly, many rooms in the hotel have a view of the scramble; the higher the floor and the closer the room to the front of the hotel the better the view will be, though some corner rooms at the hotel incur an extra charge because of the better view they offer. Our room (1417) on the 14th floor was some distance down the hall but still afforded an excellent view of the Scramble. Also note that the first lift on the left side of the left well is glass, also offering a good view of the Scramble as the lift ascends. Thirdly, the hotel is well-located for transport access throughout and beyond Tokyo. The hotel is linked by a short walkway to Shibuya Rail Station, which has many rail connections, including JR East and numerous subway lines. It was an easy location from which to explore Tokyo by train and subway; the neighbourhood is also relatively easy to reach from Tokyo Haneda Airport, vis the monorail linking into the Yamanote Line. Fourthly, the hotel is surrounded by an abundance of restaurants and shops, it’s right by a huge (though expensive) food hall. The hotel room was comfortable, clean and nicely appointed, though it was a fraction on the small size, and a bit dated, showing small signs of wear and tear, though it certainly wan't shabby. It contained most of the amenities we require, including a security safe, and an iron (and very small ironing board) was provided on request. The view of the Scramble from the room was very good. The room was serviced daily. There was a kettle with a selection of teas and instant coffee. The wi-fi worked OK, though speeds varied (though this did not particularly bother us as we were using e-sims). On the basis of the room, it's not 5-star, just edging up to a low 4-star standard. Hotel staff were professional, polite and helpful. Check-in was efficient and without issue (we had booked through JapaniCan ). A couple of things to note. The hotel does have a cafe / restaurant, but it does not open until 10.00, so if you are looking for a decent coffee prior to that, you will need to head out to a local coffee shop. There are plenty nearby (including the ubiquitous Starbucks); we loved 5 Crossties Coffee on the 17th floor of the Shibuya Scramble Square building, as it was a short and easy walk from the hotel. Here we had outstanding barista-style coffee, beautiful pastries and breakfast treats, and a fabulous view of the Scramble from the coffee shop. We would not hesitate to stay in this hotel again if we have another opportunity to visit Tokyo. It suited our requirements for location and comfort adequately.
