Repeat visit to Sapporo as a base to visit flower farms up North in Hokkaido. Hotel is a 25 minute walk from Sapporo Station and located close to the Hokkaido University Botanical Gardens. It’s a block away from the beginning of Odori Park which leads you to city centre. Hotel is much more expansive then the Mercure’s you find in Europe. Check in was fast and staff were able to communicate in English. Room was larger than you would find in Tokyo with a very large bathroom. The shower cum bath stall was great. Everything in the hotel seemed new. There are more central places you could stay in Sapporo but found that this hotel was only about a 25 minute walk to most attractions. There were quite a few good restaurants within a 10 minute walk from the hotel.

“Average hotel in Sapporo”

Very dated hotel that is showing its age. The service was fine but the hotel is also not very convenient to much (you do have to walk a bit to get to any place of interest). There are no real views and no fitness center. It may be more suited as a business hotel.

Arrival was a bit bizarre, arrived at 1pm to be told that yes, suite was ready, but if we wanted access before 3pm we would need to pay extra. Yes, I understand if we arrived at 9am, but 1pm? Anyway, returned at the witching hour and went to suite, deluxe suite on 18/F. Yes, it's a good size (120m2) but spartan. Electric curtains that did not work in the bedroom, a full kitchen - completely devoid of a single appliance, cutlery or crockery, a separate completely empty room, no soap in guest wc, no housekeeping unless specifically requested, worn and scratched doors to wardrobes. The building was previously called The Royton and it seems the Mercure have done nothing to the rooms after taking over. Shabby. Only good point was breakfast, excellent choices in a large airy space. Hotel offers a free drinks period from 3-7pm in the same place, but as a general comment, poor quality wines and spirits. Beer looked good though, but not tried. Not the most comfortable of hotels so for sure, we would not return.

No issues with booking into the hotel. Even though this hotel is a business hotel, do note that they have very very limited ironing board and irons. Please ask for one upon check-in and depending on your luck, there’s a 50% chance you won’t get it throughout your stay. This hotel does not provide any laundry service, room service and the restaurant is only open for breakfast. Even though it’s full house (or we were told), lunch and dinner had to be sourced outside the vicinity of the hotel. Breakfast offers a variety of food at the lounge area but the timing is very short, from 7am - 9:30am with a last order at 9am. Convenient stores are located 200-400 meters outside and those are a save for us.
