We were guests at Villa Schiatti for a week while participating in an "Edible Destinations" by Epitourean tour, called "A Tuscany, Truffles, Cooking & Wine Signature Series". What a fantastic experience, from the arrival at Rome's airport, FCO, and the transfer by a private vehicle and driver, to our first look at this magnificent villa, and then being greeted by our hosts Aleen & Laura with a glass of prosecco. We were so impressed with the villa, the accommodating staff where no request was too much for them to handle, and of course the picture-perfect setting. What a beautiful place to spend the week watching gorgeous sunsets, eating delicious cuisine and drinking glorious wines. It ended way too soon! The day we arrived, we met our tour mates, a family of 4 from Colorado, and the 7 of us were treated to our first of many wine, olive oil and cheese tastings led by our host Aleen. We quickly learned that Aleen would also be our daily driver and guide for the day outings across Tuscany. Aleen also had another surprise for us, he was an experienced professional sommelier! Sharing of his vast knowledge of wines and all things Tuscany made our trip even more outstanding. Our tour included a daily buffet breakfast each morning and a four course Tuscan dinner complete with wines on the terrace each evening. Each day we visited a different area of Tuscany, including Pienza, Montepulciano, Sienna, and the Cortona area. The wines, cheeses and olive oils were different and very good. We bought a generous quantity to ship back to the States. One of the highlights was hunting truffles in this forested area above Cortona with a guide and a truffle hunting dog that was just amazing. When we returned back to the villa, we were immersed in the history and uses of truffles in a cooking class. That evening we had the pleasure of a dinner featuring the meals we prepared, each using truffles. WOW!

“Tuscany Elegance”

What a fabulous Tuscan experience! Villa is a gorgeous old property, nestled among the hills of Tuscany. Aleen, the owner, met us at the Castiglion Fiorentino train station just a quick drive away from the villa. Room had a small sitting room in addition to a nice bedroom w/lovely landscape views. Loved keeping the screened windows open at night (AC in each room) to enjoy the breeze & total peace & quiet of this beautifully restored resort. We were part of a small Epitourean Tuscany, Truffles, Cooking & Wine experience through Edible Destinations, superb beyond all expectations! Night one featured an extensive wine tasting of local area red wines by Aleen followed by an outstanding Italian dinner. Days were carefully organized around visiting quaint old Tuscan villages such as Pienza, Siena & Cortana in comfy air conditioned motorcoaches. The cheese tasting experience in Pienza included not just tour but elegant lunch w/various cheeses and wines! More wine tasting in Montepulciano & Cortana, where tour included very old wineries and, again, tasted more exquisite wines. Just the right mix of history was given re: specific landmarks, etc w/personal time to explore and shop - or enjoy the yummy gelato or wine everywhere. (Truffle pizza was worth the trip, in and of itself!) Enjoyed a day of personal exploration midweek to historical Orvieto, where we rode the funicular & toured its fascinating historical underground caves. Truffle adventure included accompanying an Italian farmer & his truffle hunting dog on a truffle hunt in the Tuscan hills - fascinating experience! (The dog found 7 truffles & tried to eat one!) We learned how to prepare freshly made pasta and how to made a delicious truffle dish with hands-on experience - complete w/individual instruction by our chef. Of course, Prosecco flowed freely as did our creativity! Each morning started w/a big buffet breakfast featuring every kind of freshly made pastry imaginable, Italian meats, juices, fruit, scrambled eggs and individually brewed coffees. Dinners each evening were on the outdoor balcony overlooking Tuscany's stunningly beautiful sunsets! Of course the menu was typically Italian and every dish was creative, fresh and outstandingly prepared by Schiatti Chef. Aside from food and wine, the accommodations couldn't have been more lovely and the staff more than accommodating - an almost familylike atmosphere. Our host, Aleen, grew up in this area and knew the history well as a local. Also, an accomplished sommelier, he was an encyclopedia of wine information. We had no preconceived ideas about what this trip would be like but it was truly outstanding in every single way! A trip of a lifetime, for sure and very much an adventure!

“Food and wine adventure”

Clean, friendly kind service, great breakfast and dinner. Fantastic views. A restored 1800’s monastery, so rooms are not like a 5 star hotel but beds were comfortable. I am 6’1” and 200#. Shower was small. That’s my only complaint. Everything else excellent.
