Stayed here one night on a bike tour and we were very pleasantly surprised, found it very comfortable. First impressions weren’t great as it’s situated in fairly grim surroundings - right on a busy dual carriageway road with a derelict building next door. About 20 mins walk to historic centre of Verona. However, it’s spotlessly clean and modern inside, service at reception was incredibly friendly and helpful, we had a lovely (if a bit small) top floor room with balcony, stunning views over the city and towards the Dolomites, and we slept really well as room was quiet and bed comfy. Good shower, fridge, kettle and decent hairdryer too. Excellent breakfast. Ask for a room high up if you can, to avoid traffic noise.

Porta Palio is a nice hotel on the outskirts of central Verona. It's walkable from the train station in about 15 minutes (1.2km), mainly along a main road, so it's not particularly scenic, but it's okay. We had no problem getting checked in, and our room, 108 on the first floor, was fine for our needs. The room was pretty compact but big enough for two people to share, and it was clean and modern. The air conditioning worked well (a blessing when it was nearly 40 degrees Celsius on arrival). The bathroom was spacious and also bright and modern, with a nice, powerful, large shower. The shower door was slightly damaged and did not slide easily across, but with a bit of care, it did not impact the use of the shower itself. Breakfast was included in our room rate and was quite good, with plenty of choice and situated in a spacious dining area that was never too crowded during our stay. The location may not suit some: it's about 10-15 minutes walk into the centre of Verona via the southern Porta Palio route, but you can also walk north via San Zeno, where there are some excellent restaurants slightly closer, then continue over the bridge and east towards the centre and tourist areas. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and found the location to be a good balance between cost and convenience.

Stayed here for one night after flying into Verona. On the outskirts of the centre, it is fairly easy to reach from train station and airport bus although directions are quite confusing. It is about 15 minutes walk direct from the station and about 25 minutes walk from the Arena. The hotel was unrecognisable from the photos as it was covered in tarpaulin as there were building works going on and you could easily miss it. This wasn't pre-warned and you could easily walk past it. The room I had was small but very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good and in a spacious restaurant. Unfortunately, the only thing that let's this hotel down is the service at reception is very slow and impolite. On arrival I had to wait even though the previous customer had left reception. I also waited for over ten minutes to check-out whilst another customer had a problem with their bill but no apology was given.
