Guests at Hotel Ansitz Plantiz say: What makes Hotel Ansitz Plantiz so special:
(Please make sure to view our attached photos).
For many years my husband and I have visited Meran, and we have stayed at the Hotel Therme Meran. Fortunately for us, they were already sold out. As a result, we chose to stay at Hotel Ansitz Plantiz. Here are just a few of the reasons why we had an extraordinary time at Hotel Ansitz Plantiz:
The friendly personnel:
We read some negative reviews regarding the staff, however this situation, if true, has been remedied. The personnel at the front desk, bars and dining area always greeted us with a warm and welcoming smile. Any questions or requests we had were immediately addressed in a friendly manner.
The Golden Spa:
The Golden Spa area was the most relaxing spa we have visited. The bio infra-red cabin was fantastic. It was located in what felt like a small outdoor tranquil oasis where we could hear the birds singing from outside. In another area of the spa is a large, yet cozy, sauna and an aromatic steam room. The cold water plunge tub was refreshing. It got the circulation going, after the warm sauna and steam room. This textile free area offered, what I would call, modesty wrap towels which could be worn in the sauna. Both the indoor and outdoor heated pools were very clean and heated at the perfect temperature. In addition, there are two outdoor whirl pools overlooking the stunning views of the Alps. There are extensive treatments and massages available. My husband had a massage and said he said it was perfect. The two relaxation rooms are tranquil and relaxing. They offer a peaceful atmosphere, after the use of the sauna and steam room or a massage or treatment. They are beautifully decorated. Great care is given to make you feel comfortable and well looked after. Additionally, there is a bar area with herb teas and cucumber and lemon detox waters.
The delicate scent of honey throughout the hotel, and in your room, (shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion) have a refreshing, calming and tranquil effect on your senses and mood.
The food and wine:
We had half board and we were extremely pleased with the high quality of the food. Breakfast included a large buffet with all kinds of choices including lactose free and gluten-free options. There was a cook who made our choice of eggs or omelettes. There was also the possibility to order freshly pressed fruit or vegetable smoothies. The buffet at dinner was so large and varied that one could make a full meal from it alone. However, you won’t want to miss out on the gourmet dinner. The soups, appetizers and entrées were amazing. Unfortunately, we have had, at other hotels, the bad experience where the chef tries to make gourmet dishes, but falls short by combining the wrong flavors in the dish. The chef at this hotel obviously is an experienced chef with an experienced staff who create delicious dishes in each of the four dinner courses. There is also an extensive list of wines which come from the hotels large wine cellar. With each bottle of wine their comes a story and history regarding the particular wine.
The rooms:
We stayed in one of the panoramic view rooms which gave us a bird’s-eye view of the majestic Alps and the beautiful hotel grounds. The room had an absolutely amazing view. In addition, there was a very large private balcony with two large leather lounges. There was also a temperature controlled wine refrigerator in our room. We highly recommend one of these rooms to experience waking up surrounded by an awe inspiring view each morning. However, all the rooms looked very inviting with some having swinging lounges on their balconies.
The location:
The hotel is perfectly located. You have the best of both worlds as the hotel is nestled in the alps, yet it is still only a 12 minute bus ride to the center of Meran. 6 minutes by car. The bus stop is directly in front of the hotel. All you need to do is walk out the front door of the hotel, and you are surrounded by countless opportunities to go on a hike, ride a bike trail or take a cable car lift to the top of the mountains. If you are traveling by car, there is an underground parking garage which is inside the hotel and is free of charge.
The Pools and Garden
Unlike most hotels, where the lounges are all next to each other along the sides of the pool, this hotel has numerous lounges spread out in various cozy green corners of the garden. This arrangement allows you to feel more private and close to nature; instead of being crowded around the pool. In one corner, you can hear the gentle flow of the fountain in the Japanese inspired garden area. In another area, you are surrounded by a Mediterranean garden with oleander bushes and palm trees. Relaxation pure! The heated indoor pool has showers and a family friendly steam room. There are numerous lounges and beds to chose from. The room where the heated indoor pool is located is bright and sunny with floor to ceiling windows which brings nature indoors.
They spoil their guests:
Each afternoon they offered a cake buffet with an array of cakes and apple strudel with fresh vanilla sauce. One could try as many of the cakes as one liked to, at no additional charge; other than, the cost of the beverage.
In one of the newsletters it was offered that on the night before your departure you could ask for an apple strudel to take home with you. We assumed it would be two pieces of apple strudel. Instead it was an entire gift wrapped apple strudel, which was absolutely delicious with apples picked from the many apple orchards in Meran. Please see our photos.
Personalized service:
It is a boutique hotel which offers personalized service. I have chronic back and neck pain. The hotel offers to change your mattress and/or pillows to insure you get a good nights sleep. I asked for this service, and it was done within minutes of my request. I had 5 great nights of rest as a result!
Activities:
There is a daily newsletter waiting for you at your breakfast table each morning. It announces the days activities which are available to you. For example, there are tractor rides through the beautiful apple orchards, wine cellar tours, bike tours, small hikes, yoga, Pilates etc. etc. There is also large exercise room with all the lastest equipment. The bright and sunny room is on the second level and has a view to the alps and the hotel garden.
The Day Spa:
On the day of our departure we were invited to remain at the hotel to enjoy all the facilities including the Golden Spa. There is a separate area with lockers, showers and a changing area for you to use during the day. It is equipped with toiletries and hairdryers. Additionally, guest are given a basket with fresh bathrobes and towels to use during the day. Unlike many other hotels, there is no extra charge to use the Golden Spa area or to remain as long as you wish on your check out day.
Ambience:
Unlike many large hotels, the layout of this hotel is very welcoming. It has numerous cozy corners to sit and relax or to take in the stunning views of the alps which surround the hotel. We visited in late October therefore the outdoor and indoor fireplaces were very inviting. There are two different bars each having its own charm. One is a cool cigar bar and the other has large comfortable relaxing chairs and a warm fireplace. There are also quite a few quiet reading rooms/areas with books, magazines, tourist information and even spare reading glasses in case you forgot yours at home.
Attention to detail:
This is a family run hotel. It can be seen in the attention to detail in every corner of the hotel. The design and decor of the hotel is an interesting and appealing mix of classic alpine and modern sophistication. It is charming throughout the hotel with romantic lanterns hanging from the 100+ year old olive tree in the front courtyard and decorative elements like brass little piggies and stools which are in the shape of full size sheep. These alpine inspired articles are neatly blended in with elegant modern crystal lighting and contemporary furnishings. There are many cozy outdoor seating areas with lovely evening lighting which entices you to sit and enjoy the stars after dinner or have an evening cocktail.
Shopping:
There are at least four gift shops in the hotel. The gifts range from imported cigars, to local wines, to local delicacies, to spa treatments and to stylish decorative articles.
Finally, we know we left out a lot more information, but we hope this review helps you to decide to visit Hotel Ansitz Plantiz. We will certainly be back again next year. Until then, thank you family Gufler for making our 25th wedding anniversary celebration extra special. We wish your family and your dedicated team our best wishes, Family Scheibeck

“3 wonderful nights in Merano”
I would have never expected this kind of service from an Hotel in Merano. Everything was simply perfect. We were upgraded by the owner to a romantic suite and believe me when I say that the room was at the level of Four seasons or Ritz Carlton suites. Breakfast was incredible every morning. Interne… more
