Hotel Avidea is a synonym for quality of rooms, paramount cleanliness, outstanding kitchen performance and great views across the Meran valley. We had a room in the new building which offered not only a great view but also luxury room facilities. Everything was almost new. The indoor-/outdoor swimmingpool has a great location: while swimming one has a superb overwiev across the Merano valley. And the hotel is an excellent place for gourmets. Every evening we appreciated a six or seven courses dinner. The variety was each and every day surprising. Not to forget the breakfast of very good quality. Last but not least we experienced a very friendly and capable hotel team who was looking after us in a way difficult to improve.

My sister booked this hotel because it had combination of great location for hiking and wellness spa ( which accommodated both of our interests). We stayed 4 nights and had 2 rooms of bigger sizes. Rooms were very spacious in the older section of hotel and we had a view on wonderful apple orchards and vineyards right outside our hotel fence. Hotel was very modern and had a great choices of hot tubs on the roof or by the sauna room, not to mention nice pool with the view down into the Merano valley. We had a half pension which means breakfast and diner - breakfast was buffet style but full meal with many choice whatever your taste was for. Dinner was 5 course meal with great appetizer /antipasto serving and well done theme meals (for all our stay, meals were not repeated, everyday something different ) there were choices to make to suit your taste. Location of the hotel was such that you can start your hikes right outside the door, close to Morano and Bolzano, nice but very busy little towns. Hotel was very clean, service great and very attentive. Few things that could be improved : mattress - very hard, we had to ask for toppers ( small foam was added on the top of our mattress, my sister end up with 3 of them ) and not much English in the hotel, we asked for English menu and only 1 night made it to our table after my sister translated all from German. For driving to hotel be aware of very narrow winding road to hotel and when you meet the bus or bigger auto one car has to back to someone's driveway to pass, but when you make to hotel there is nice covered parking and you really don't need a car to move around. As a guest you will get card with free public transportation-very helpful.

We spent four nights here, and while greater foodies than we will be even more impressed with the dinners, we were nonetheless impressed by the food. We were, though, a little mystified by so many negative comments about the mattresses in this place haven't apparently prompted them to be replaced. After a terrible first night, the staff came in and put a foam topper on the beds--in ours and well as my wife's family's beds--though it seems inexplicable how we would need to ask, since no doubt many many do already. Also, my wife's grown nephew was there, and they had to pay full room price for him to share the room, but had only an undersized couch for him to sleep on. To gain his own room, they would have to pay full price (of course), but would not be refunded his charge for sharing the room, thus incurring double charges. Neither fair nor ethical nor even logical. Otherwise, our corner room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfasts the best appointed on the trip, and dinners were 5+ course affairs with choices for the main options throughout the menu, though I opted for the vegetarian a few times since I don't eat fish unless fresh or that much red meat. The veggie dishes were beautifully prepared and very tasty. Foodies will love this place, and the well pampered will enjoy the salt water pool--which is divided for inside and out by a sliding glass door--the roof-top hot tubs, and the saunas. We hiked into Merano from the wonderful trail just outside the front door, and thoroughly enjoyed how a short hike was all we needed to get to a wide variety of things in the valley and the various mountainsides, including high mountain hikes in the Alps. Love food? This is a great place. Love a friendly staff? These people excelled at making sure we were taken care of. My four star rating? The beds. After a day of hiking in the high mountains, or just lounging around the pool, a five-star rating comes from being able to sleep comfortably. Fix the beds, and I'm sure the five-stars will come from almost everyone.

Burggraeflerhof is run by the Fam Bacher. Wauw, what a service they bring! A very personal welcome and an excellent service throughout our stay. Also the other hotel staff is top-quality. This is really impressive. Congrats to the team! The hotel is typical for the Süd Tirol area; looks like Austria, is as clean as Switzerland and the food is 80% Italian. What else can you expect? We had a panoramic room with a beautiful view over the valley. The room was restyled and very nice, so was the hotel bar and restaurant. We would have loved airconditioning and a minibar in our room. Also the safe was rather small: used to fit bills no iStuff :-) One should also prohibit smoking outside on the terras. Smoking guests were using their terrases to smoke outside, but this meant that the surrounding or nearby room(s) were impacted by the smell too. Airconditioned rooms could be a solution to this (you can keep the windows closed for unpleasant odours). The swimming pool is ok; our kids loved it, but some older/other hotel guests did not always appreciate playing and noisy kids - there is not a lot of grass next to the pool, so everybody is close to each other. This was our general feeling about the other hotel guests. As a couple with kids, we were not in the majority. In comparison with other hotels, our kids did not really match up with others. There were more older couples without kids, than there were younger couples with children. We would also have appreciated a better mix of different European travelers, but that's out of our control, nor in the hands of the hotel. 95% of the travelers are German, but maybe this is true for the Süd Tirol area in general. With regards to the WiFi: as usual these days, the connection in the hotel to the access points was good, but the speed to Internet was not always sufficient. It was better than in other hotels, but not as broad as at home ;-) In general, the connection was ok for ad-hoc social media connections, but not strong enough for professional VPN access. The hotel is perfect for hiking and biking trips in Süd Tirol. We went hiking with our children (6 and 9) and they loved it. Loads of possibilities nearby. I climbed the Stelvio by bike and used the cycle tracks near the river. If you love hiking & biking, like a warm welcome and enjoy good food and wine ... you need to go here.
