“Beautiful hotel with stunning views”

Beautiful hotel with stunning views. We stayed for a long weekend and took a beautiful room overlooking Vesuvius and the bay of Naples. Breakfast is served on the top floor with stunning views. The ENTIRE staff are fantastic and make you feel part of their family. We WILL return soon.

Let’s begin with the great. This was a terrific hotel and location. All staff were terrific from the front desk, to the maitre d’ and waitstaff to the wonderful folks that served breakfast every day with a smile. The room was lovely with a great view of Mt Vesuvius and to the left extending to the coast. Breakfast view was astounding surrounded by serenity and mountains. We set ourselves up here as a hub for our coastal visit and benefited from secure parking and shuttle to train station when needed. The grounds are simply lovely with lush greenery and laid out with care. The room had all you could want (more later on one dimension that left us wanting). We had some minor glitches with the door on our first day but they were taken care of quickly. The inside decor is charming and unique. The finishes are generally very high quality throughout. Bravo. Here is what could make it even better. First. Leave a card and little something when you make mistakes or the property doesn’t live up to basic expectations. For this quality and price the door handle coming off first time I close it and the lock malfunctioning could have had a little note from the manager as this was part of the first impression and tarnished the mystique that was otherwise very carefully crafted and executed. Second: breakfast was terrific. Simply delicious each day with all we could want. And the views. Wow. So why then is dinner so decidedly mediocre (to be kind)? The restaurant staff were great start to finish. Bread and olive oil: terrific. First class. Draft beer listed. I order some. Sorry none. Two days in a row. Ok some simple house wine then. Various pasta and seafood dishes. Calamari was plentiful but way over seasoned. Too much salt. We couldn’t eat it and they removed from our bill without asking (thanks to wonderful maitre d’) but not up to standards otherwise set. Pasta was fine. But I’m in a small luxury hotel in Italy. It should be terrific. Salad. Fine. Dessert was good and the amuse bouche and little sweets at end of meal were very tasty. So how can you let starters, secondi and mains be so very mediocre? This inconsistency lets down an otherwise outstanding property. You can do better as your staff are working hard creating a really nice atmosphere. Your customers deserve and are paying for better than this. Third. Do not charge the customer for each and every pod of Nespresso coffee they use in their room for the maker left in the room. I have travelled the world staying at many luxury hotels in 4 and 5 star ratings. Not once until this time was I ever charged for what is now standard in 4 star properties in North America never mind 5 stars. It is petty and detracts from the level of care and amenities you otherwise provide. 1.50 euro per pod was charged upon check out. When asked about they said the little packet of instant coffee that looked just like the creamers and sugar was free. Come on. Instant coffee in a luxurious boutique hotel? It was a bad finish to an otherwise charming visit. Don’t end this way. So all told. We would happily return. But the hospitality needs more work to make consistent with what other luxury boutique hotels have as standards. I hope you will take this in the spirit it was intended. I know your property can be truly outstanding and hope next time it will be.
