Lovely little apartment located a minute or twos walk from Piazza del Campo. We went for the Palio and it was a complete thrill a few lessons we have learned will make it easier to navigate when we return, although the secrets of how to arrange seating on the bleachers remains a closely guarded secret. Read up on the city first to fully appreciate the history and culture. On a negative point, be prepared to be in amongst the rudest most discourteous Italians I have ever met.

“Still a solid budget choice.”
A decade ago we stayed here and I was curious to stay again. 2 nights, 2 beds. We were there during the off days of the Palio and were there to explore. Loved the escalators into the town from the train station (didn't have that back then!). Would stay again and did.

“Fantastic location, staggeringly awkward bathroom.”

Outstanding location but worst shower ever. Towels were not replaced when wet. Shower curtain kept trying to block the drain causing the floor to flood. Very small area to stand in and the controls were easy to bump if you moved much. Position of loo was awkward as could hit shoulder or head on handbasin when you stand up. Night staff guy was great and spoke very good English. Glad we were on level 2 once we saw the metal spiral stairs to level 3. Halls echoed so anyone moving around at night disturbed others.

I needed a hotel in Siena for the night and wanted to be close to the centre. Choice was limited on the day I booked (only one week before staying), however I found a great price at La Perla. The hotel is just a couple of minutes away from the Campo right in the centre of the city. The Cathedral also very close by. The hotel is directly on Providencia Square which taxis can reach if you don’t want a walk. The entrance takes you up a flight of stairs to reception, which was quick and easy. Up another floor to my standard room, which was with an internal window. Note there are NO lifts here and superior rooms are up in the attics via a tight spiral staircase. A small single, the room was fine, cosy, comfortable (if short) bed, storage and hanging space and TV plus AC unit which you’d need in summer for sure. I was worried it may be noisy, however it was relatively quiet until 0700 when the bells kicked in from the tower nearby. Tiny bathroom with loo, sink and a shower. Complimentary soap. No towel, just the cotton table cloth style which I don’t like. Breakfast is taken in a nearby bar around 100m walk away, with a voucher. Nothing special. Just a coffee and juice and a pastry or sandwich. It’s nothing special but was friendly and clean. Location is fantastic for the price.
