My fiance and I have just returned from our trip to San Gimignano on Friday, staying at the Hotel Terre Rosse. The trip was for my 30th birthday and I can honestly say our experience could not have been better - I didn't want to leave! The hotel was so helpful with any questions we had, very accommodating and friendly. We had a basic room in the hotel but it was a great space for our 1 week stay, large bed, great size bathroom, open wardrobe with plenty of hanging space. The hotel food was amazing, we had breakfast every morning - great variety of food available from meats, cheese, cereal, pastries etc. We had lunch many days during our trip, again - great selection of light bites and larger meals such as burgers and flatbreads. We had evening dinner 3 times during our stay, we tried different dishes each time and we could not fault any of the dishes - excellent quality. One of the dinner meals was for my birthday and they even made the table extra special with some decorations and candles which was a lovely touch. The hotel pool and garden area was beautiful, we spent many afternoons just enjoying the peace and quiet of the hotel. The hotel itself is in a fantastic location, in a short driving distance from the town of San Gimignano if you have a car and the hotel also runs a shuttle bus to and from the town. Hotel has 2 carparks with plenty of spaces if renting a car. All in all, could not recommend this hotel enough and would love to visit again in the future!

I have mixed feelings about this hotel, so I’ll start with the positives. The surroundings are stunning—the building, restaurant, green areas, and pool are all beautiful and well-maintained. The highlight of this hotel is definitely the staff: they are incredibly friendly, warm, helpful, and highly professional. Nothing is too much trouble for them, and they make you feel truly cared for. The free shuttle bus to San Gimignano is also a great bonus, and the breakfasts are absolutely AMAZING! However, we found the hotel to be significantly overpriced. We paid €249 for a Deluxe room that was quite basic, with a bathroom badly in need of renovation. The TV did not offer many channels for international guests (my husband and son are English, and there were no English-language channels), the TV was also surprisingly very small for the size of the room and the price we paid. There was no hospitality tray, which is standard in most hotels and B&Bs, and they even charged us for the water provided in the room. Another point worth mentioning is that there is no lift, so we had to carry our luggage down the stairs ourselves. I’ve stayed in fantastic hotels in the UK for much less, and if I had seen this room beforehand, I wouldn’t have booked it. In my opinion, the room is worth at least €100 less than what we were charged, so I wouldn’t pay more than €150 for it. The restaurant was another let-down—overpriced, and some dishes didn’t seem to reflect the rich flavours of traditional Tuscan cuisine, at least based on the three dinners we had there. On our last night, I even complained that my meal was inedible, but no one offered a replacement. I struggled to find someone to speak to, and by the time someone finally came, my family had already finished their meal while I hadn’t eaten at all. Although they still charged us for the meal, they did deduct it from the hotel bill the next day after I complained at checkout. Overall, it feels like you’re paying for the beautiful Tuscan surroundings, and while the facilities are lovely and well-maintained, they don’t justify the high price.
