12/2024 Reviews - Sina Bernini Bristol Hotel, Rome, Italy Travel + Leisure nominated Sina Bernini Bristol (Rome) for its 2025 World’s Best Awards should come as no surprise to the seasoned travelers– it is an exceptional oasis in the heart of Rome! After a memorable 10-night stay in 12/2023, we returned to Sina Bernini Bristol in 12/2024, and again collected another lasting memory. It’s more than a 5-star hotel, more than a “home-away-from-home”! Steeped in 150 years of history with famous guests of celebrities & royalties, Sina Bernini Bristol Hotel (Rome) deserves all its high recognitions - its artistic renovations bring together flawlessly Bernini’s Baroque Arts, European elegance, contemporary comforts, all further accentuated by warm staff, attentive services. Indeed, during this stay, we were fortunate to witness another famous hotel guest – Maurizio Cattelan – an internationally renowned Italian Artist/Sculptor - signed & accented “GRAZIE, Lorenzo” directly ONTO the Hotel Reception counter top! (For those so inclined, Maurizio Cattelan’s “Blind” memorialized the September 11 Attacks – Wikipedia.) Yet, another valuable consideration for travelers is clearly Sina Bernini Bristol’s prime location at Piazza Barberini overlooking The Triton Fountain – it brings conveniences to you which few other brands could match, PLUS, no steps to negotiate to reach Rome’s historic center or attraction sites …An easy 4-18 min. walk brings you to Barberini Palace/National Gallery of Ancient Arts, The Four Fountains, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Quirinale Presidential Palace, Villa Medici, Teatro dell’Opera, Pantheon, Villa Borghese, Rome Historic Centre, Papal Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore, Piazza Navona, add a few more minutes to reach Victorio Emanuelle Monument, Capitoline Museum, Colosseum, Rome Termini main train station, Roman Forum, you name it …or hop on Metro Red Line A at Barberini Metro Stop (2-minute walk across from the hotel) gets you to the Basilica of St. Peters/Vatican Museum and further…. There are, obviously, more for you to discover at Sina Bernini Bristol, e.g., elaborate breakfasts, fine cuisines, evening views of Rome. Indeed, if you have a milestone celebration, treat yourself to a Suite or, at least, a drink at the roof-top bar – it will be a long-lasting memory….!

I spend 2 nights before a cruise at the Sina Bernini Bristol hotel. It's located near the Trevi fountain and Spanish steps, and opposite a stop for some of the HOHO buses. One thing to note is that this hotel is older, all the rooms are very different and it's made up of a few buildings so that even though there's a lift, several actually, you may STILL have to navigate up/down 6-9 steps to get to your room which I didn't know beforehand and was rather annoying. After some initial misunderstandings with staff (I didn't feel welcome at first, and at one point, a doorman followed me around and made me feel like he thought I wasn't a guest, I had a nice stay but I won't return, mainly due to the physical layout of the hotel and other small things, like no one told me that I had to insert my key into a hard to find spot to turn on the lights. I did get upgraded to a suite for my birthday which was nice, and the breakfast room staff kindly added a candle to a bombolono (little donut) in honor of my birthday so that was super nice. The room was clean and fairly quiet, with a large bathroom, sitting area and comfortable bed. I will say that the prices for food and drinks in the hotel and at the surrounding restaurants were quite a bit higher than those in facilities closer to the other hotel I stayed in (Hotel Lancelot, by the Colosseum, in a more residential area) so that was a bummer. WIFI worked fairly well and the hotel did have a lot of TV channel options, though not many in English and no US channels if I recall. (SO watching American football in Italy, on a German channel with German play by play was fun!) Not all rooms have A/C that functions all the time either, so if you're always hot, be sure to ask for a room with A/C. The breakfast, which I selected as my Bonvoy Elite amenity was very good with plenty of variety to satisfy both European and American palates. I loved the MYO waffles! And I always appreciate a good mimosa as well. I did enjoy my stay and the hotel is very nice, it just wasn't a good fit for me personally. I had very high expectations and I was a little let down initially. Again, many love this property but I can also understand those who do not. If you want a nicely located hotel in a convenient, albeit a more expensive part of Rome, then this might be your place. But if you're looking to have your socks knocked off with service and luxury, you may be disappointed.

Just not a 5 star as advertised. The support staff (restaurants, bar, housekeeping, porters) were very good. However, the front desk seemed bothered by what appeared to be mostly American guests. Example, my wife asked for change from larger bills to smaller bills, and told “go have the bartender do it”. Asked bartender, and he did not have change, so asked again at desk and told they probably cannot do that , and my wife responded it’s for your staff, and they suddenly could. That’s a simple request that you would expect a 5 star hotel to accommodate all day long. I also found room descriptions misleading, as an urban view is an alley/small street simply looking at another building(pretty much zero view). Finally, with mostly American guests (I understand Italian aperitif hours) surprised the best asset of the hotel (rooftop bar view, which was amazing) was closed until after sundown (really wanted an afternoon drink and to enjoy the view in the sunlight, plus it was a bit chilly after sundown in November). Room was nice, with a very nice en suite (water closet and separate shower and closet areas).
