Description
Only a 5 minute walk from the Vatican and 10 minutes from Piazza di Spagna - Spanish steps - with the underground. Amalia has been run by the same family since 1955 and is today a modern hotel that is a good starting point for a stay in Rome. Apart from the Vatican there are shops, restaurants and bars in the neigbourhood. As well it is easy to reach other parts of Rome (the underground station i… more

This small hotel near the Vatican was a pleasant surprise since the beginning of our stay. The staff is helpful and thoughtful (they speak Portuguese). The rooms are comfortable, spotless clean and beautifully decorated. Our stay took place during Easter and we were surprised with the cutest gifts from the hotel: Easter eggs and a porcelain bunny. We simply loved it!

The Hotel Amalia was at the top of the four places we stayed in Italy Oct 2022. Of all the amenities listed, the AC was a big plus for us. Our lovely room on the fourth floor was clean and quiet. We had the option to close the shutters, and along with the black out curtains was also very quiet with the widows closed, even though the corner is quite bustling. The bed was king sized and lovely, on the firm side, and everything was clean and crisp, despite the 70s style poly covers they had on the bed and couch. The bathroom modern and simple, a few packets of hair and body wash and plenty of towels. There was a dresser, fridge, a small safe and plenty of hangers in the cupboard. The concierge that greeted us spoke several(?) languages, and was very friendly and welcoming, as was the room helper that showed us to our room and gave AC instruction. Each floor has its own keyless entry, feels quite secure and is in a safe and convenient location near public transpo. Many shops and weekend flea market, restaurants, live music a few blocks down, just perfect. Our other hotel near Porta Pia was screechingly, honkingly loud every morning beginning at six am. We did have a key snafu and the concierge was accomodating, and so nice about it, he didn't make us feel like the dopes who forgot our key (twice:(). I would absolutely recommend this reasonably priced Prati neighborhood gem

Bus from the main square ( Piazza Risorgimento) takes you right outside the Olimpico for the match. Found a gem! Al prossimo anno. Paolo

There are lots of shops and restaurants nearby and only a 10 minute stroll to St peters and the Da vinci museum or 5 minutes to the Vatican museum/Sistene chapel. 15/20 minute walk to Castel sant angelo which is a must visit. Rooms are cleaned everyday, lovely place to stay, no breakfast but lots of eating places just round the corner. would be nice to have tea & coffee making facilities, luckily i took my own travel kettle. Overall a lovely stay.

The ‘hotel’ was more like an air BnB than a hotel. It’s essentially an apartment block with permanent residents, however our floor had key card access which I think was set aside just for paying hotel guests (I think, can’t be certain). We felt safe though. The staff were helpful and friendly so no complaints there, I just think for clarity people should be aware that it’s not quite a classic hotel that you think of l. 3 stars given because the staff were nice, but I think they should be a bit more honest with what it’s like. We didn’t feel like we stayed in a hotel so we’re quite disappointed with the price we paid. They should change their rates to reflect the fact this isn’t a proper hotel. The location is great though and very close to the Vatican. Photos 6, 7, 8 & 9 are sadly fake, or it certainly didn’t look like this when we went there. There is no hotel reception as pictured. Photo 5 has been doctored as if there is a reception there, you can see from later photos this is actually a mirror not a reception area. The ‘reception’ is actually just a small room on the ground floor where the manager sits behind a standard table, which at first doesn’t seem very legit. But he is very nice and helpful. The first picture is not the front of the hotel either but a location nearby. We also didn’t see the restaurant they refer to. Whether it exists or not, I don’t know. We never ate there. No tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms either. Pro’s: location is great. Staff are nice and helpful. Room was clean and cleaned every day, and a pretty good size with modern en suite. Con’s: need to be honest with how it’s advertised. This is a room within a residential block. No tea or coffee facilities in rooms.
