What a little gem right by Castel Sant'Angelo and Piazza Navonna! The Vatican isn't a far walk either, and to be honest, we love to walk so there are tons of places to explore from here. Coronari is a delightful street, with some good restaurants, but cars did sometimes come down it, so just note it's a little more narrow than other Roman streets. I'm not sure why other reviewers were disappointed with this hotel, we are in Rome and it's tight; this is a small, adorable boutique hotel. It was comfortable, clean, had hot water, and was just a wonderful stay. There was space for breakfast, with a variety of options, was small but it worked out fine for 2 people. We had awesome made to order cappuccinos every morning. Yes, the lobby floor didn't have a restroom but you could take the stairs or elevator one floor down to get to it. I've seen many people talking about the black paint; I stayed in a partly painted black room but it really wasn't a big deal; there's plenty of lighting. The staff were amazing; so friendly and helpful. I really appreciated that the gentleman who checked us in was clear about the tax/fee system in Rome, and went over the receipts before I signed anything. One woman reserved a cab for us the night before so we could get to the airport the next morning-- my Italian wasn't strong enough to do this so it was such a relief. The other gentlemen explained that the cab would pick us up right by the door, and it did! My only regret was not having the time to check out the rooftop terrace.

We had 3 rooms at the Coronari. The location is great, the service very friendly and the breakfast and Cappuccios were great. Why then the 3 rating? Honestly I had read about the black hallways and black bathrooms before we booked but I couldn't even imaging how depressing and ugly they are. When I got off the elevator on my floor It was entirely black painted walls and I thought I accidently must have gone to an attic floor or to an unauthorized area. Then I realized this was the hall to my room. Creepy. The room was clean, the lights didn't work well but the bathroom, every wall ,the floor and the shower were completely painted or tiled black. IIn addition with all this black surround there was not enough light to even put on makeup. t was really a downer and I have to say , depressing. As my daughter said, " it is not may favorite room, but it is my least favorite room". I have to agree, but nothing that a few gallons of white paint couldn't fix. I completely get trying for the modern black and white decor, but this was a big miss.

We were disappointed in the rooms at the Coronari Palace, the small size of the breakfast area and the lack of a lobby level bathroom. The staff, location and breakfast food was great. We stayed at the Coronari in 2016 and loved the old charm which is now gone with the renovation to a more "modern" look. With the dark paint and fixtures, the bathrooms were dark making it difficult to see. Unlike other hotels, the entry door opens out. This confused us at first and we also found it affected another couple that was staying at the hotel. We arrived back from dinner one night to find a guest trying to reach someone at the after hours number. We tried to help while they made numerous attempts to connect with someone. During this time I suggested they try the room key again, remembering to pull, rather than push, the door. And it worked! Perhaps a sign would help. The employees were pleasant and helpful with arranging transportation to the train station and making reservations for dinner our first night. On our second morning, the employee at the desk brought over a lighted candle in a cupcake for our granddaughter for her birthday. The breakfast area is small. With our family of 11 seated, there was only two other seats remaining. Luckily we were up and out early. The rooftop terrace was nice and provided a unique view of the city.
