On our way from Rome to Bari, we decided to make a quick stop in Naples to visit both this city but also the nearby ancient city of Pompeii. We had originally planned two nights in Naples, but decided upon arrival to change our plans and move along to Bari as quickly as possible instead. So, we started looking for hotels that were affordable and close to the central train station/bus terminal in Naples, as we concluded that we would only be staying for one night anyway, and therefore comfort wasn´t our highest priority this time. We found rooms with Hotel Orsa Maggiore through booking.com, and managed to snatch the last room available for that particular night. We had no problems finding the address when arrived to the train station in Naples, in fact the short walk could have been reduced to only a couple of minutes had it not been for our luggage slowing us down a bit. When we arrived to checkin, we were told that the room we had booked/gotten was in another building, not even half a block away. This was apparently their appartments-section of their franchise, and we were absolutely amazed by how fresh, trendy and clean these rooms/appartmens were for the price we had paid. We were also relieved by the fact that all windows were soundproofed, so although we were staying in a hotel with a view over the busiest piazza in Naples, we didn´t hear a thing. This was very important to us, especially for me, as I am av very light sleeper. Nice, surprisingly comfortable bed, modern airconditioning and fresh room with fresh bathroom. Good serviceminded staff. Only downside, was that one had to use coins to use the elevator, no big amounts, just the smallest change.

“Nice. Clean. Comfortable. Lots of stairs. Great location. And very very clean. ”

An okay place to stay. A lot. A lot. A lot of steep steps to haul luggage to room. No help. So so breakfast. Great location. Clean. The staff is her Nice staff. Wouldn’t stay again. Room is tiny. Bed uncomfortable.

We stayed at the Orsa Maggiore for four nights. You get what you pay for - hotel is cheap (may '19) and 2 km from most of the sights. Very close to main trainstation and Porta Nolana (where trains go directly to Pompeii and Ercolano) Staff: If you expect a smiling or greeting clerk, find another place. The young girl behind the counter had an exceptional ability to make you feel like you bothered her. This didn't affect our overall rating, since this isn't of importance for us. But if you value this highly, your experience will be affected. Room: Fine - considering what we paid. Very noisy - lot of noise from within the hotel. Remember ear-plugs!
