“Excellent hotel”

The staff are exceptional, they can’t do enough for you. The breakfast is excellent, great choice. Situated on a quiet street. Great to have a pool too.

Great location and Alesandro told us some great restaurants to enjoy wonderful meals at. Any type of problem was very quickly resolved by Alesandro. Also the city is just beautiful

“Not the vision I had in my head, so disappointed 😞”

Disappointed as soon as we arrived at the hotel. Our flight was late and we arrived at 2am by an unwelcoming man at reception, who we appeared to have woken up. Disappointed as soon as we arrived at the hotel. Our flight was late and we arrived at 2am by an unwelcoming man at reception, who we appeared to have woken up. Room was on the other side of the street in an annexe to the hotel. There was no information booklet about the hotel or surrounding area. Throughout our stay it was very noisy with guests at all hours banging doors, high volumes of conversation. The walls seem particularly thin. The controller for the air con was bolted behind a casing which meant it couldn't be adjusted, it could either be on freezing cold or off. This was very frustrating. Tip - take a phillips screw driver to enable you to unscrew casing. The room was however very clean and the maid was attentive to our needs. The breakfast was ok, the same every day which became very tedious after the first few days. There was plenty of room for improvement. The breakfast times changed without warning when the need arose for a large group of Korean travellers. The waiters/waitress particularly at breakfast were not very engaged. They went about their business, not particularly happy. If you asked them to prepare you coffee rather than use the machine it made you feel like you were asking for a bank loan. Whatever you do don't be late for breakfast as you won't be let in. The area itself is not at all what I had expected of Tuscany of what I had read and researched. Montecani is very dated, most of the historical buildings are closed and in a state of disrepair. There is not much to see or do. We purchased travel tickets for the trains ( 3 days £22 and 5 days £41) which is great value for money) as you can travel quite a distance. We loved Lucca and Florence. We were going to do the Cintra Terre Trail, unfortunately we're unwell, but a fantastic trip. We did do the the Funicolare train ride up to the Montecani Alto twice once in the day and once at night to watch the sunset and have dinner ( plus we saw a deer on the way up). We did the usual touristy things Leaning Tower of Pisa etc all easily accessible by trains, as long as you have a good sense of direction. You can download a train app which gives you train times etc.
