With the flair and air of an old grand hotel is is very good! Perfectly situated looking at the sea, the harbour and Piazza Mascagni the house is impressive! Perfect breakfast served in a phantastic veranda! However some parts of the hotel and of therroms need renovation. We had a big bathroom in our room (positive) however it needs renovation. The hotel staff was very helpful, they were perfect.

“Avoid. Not up to standard”

A real disappoint. It clearly was once a grand hotel but that was yesterday, Front desk was armourist. Poor service when checking in not quiet rude but lacking in any warmth or welcome. Room was OK, we asked for a sea view but none were available. It was adequate given we were there for just a day… more

A real disappoint. It clearly was once a grand hotel but that was yesterday, Front desk was armourist. Poor service when checking in not quiet rude but lacking in any warmth or welcome. Room was OK, we asked for a sea view but none were available. It was adequate given we were there for just a day. However the shower in the room failed in the morning, I reported it to front desk pointing out my wife was very angry as she was trying to take a shower, |Before I got back to my room a service engineer let himself into the room with my wife still in undress in the bathroom. Chaos and embarrassment. No apologies or recompense. We decided to eat in the hotel restaurant booked a table and went up 30 minutes early to have a cocktail as they had a roof top bar. We ordered drinks at the bar but no stalls, there were no seats or couches. We went to sit out on the balcony, that was close so we were left standing in the restaurant entrance. We decided to sit down at a table. We were shown to a table tucked away on the corner. Great fish menu but most dishes were for two, my wife was vegan so I had to order and pay for two meals for fish. It was good but very expensive. Once finished we went to leave and charge to our room. The server would not do that as he said the restaurant was a separate company. I pointed out that I'd left my credit card in my room. He locked the restaurant door, told my wife to wait until I had retrieved my card from the room. A disgrace, complained to front desk again little interest and said that's the way it is! Frankly as complete armature hotel, no real management and complete self righteousness! A quality hotel in history only!

“Hotel is fine, but would not recommend Livorno as a holiday destination.”

The hotel itself is fine, staff are very pleasant . The hotel is looking tired in places ,the bathroom need updating but generally all looks a bit dated in places. The hotel itself is fine, staff are very pleasant . The hotel is looking tired in places ,the bathroom need updating but generally all looks a bit dated in places. And for us the room rate was not cheap. The swimming pool is a small plunge pool, waist height and if you want to sun bathe on the roof terrace there are no parasols so you will have no shade .This is probably the only hotel I have stayed in that does does not have parasols in the sun bathing areas- not good in my opinion. In the height of summer it's far to hot to sit out for any length of time without a shade. The problem mainly I have is with Livorno itself. The whole area needs to be regenerated . It's extensively a large Port city that seems quite run down, graffiti in a lot of places , some buildings and restaurants looking very scruffy and dated . Just looking quite grotty. We searched to look for nice areas for restaurants and cafe, bars . But we could not really find anything very nice. The little Venice areas looks good but no bars or restaurants or little cafes around there. The port area has a new shopping Mall I guess built from one of the old warehouses but it is quite soulless, with a McDonald's and a few other fast food and some shops in there . It could have been so much better with little cafes and local wares. We where recommended a restaurant not far from the hotel , that did look really good , but when we turned up they said they where fully booked, although it seemed half full. ( I think family and local friends take precedent in a lot of the restaurants around here especially at holiday time and at the weekends ). The hotel is fine, but I would not recommend Livorno itself as a holiday destination personally , there are much nicer places to stay in Tuscany.
