5/5 as the question is "How would you rate your experience?" Our experience was great. They looked after us well and we had a lovely time in Sirmione thanks to the well-run, perfectly located hotel. The negative comments seem to be based on confusion or unrealistic expectations. I could nit-pick and give 4/5 but on balance, the positives outweigh the negatives. The positives: - The location, obviously. - Pleasant, helpful and efficient staff - reception, restaurant, porter, spa - all lovely. - The rooms. Double Standard and Double Deluxe were big enough, clean and with great view of the little harbour/port - The thermal outdoor pool and spa (notwithstanding the sulphur smell - see negatives). This was a bonus for us as even staying here without that would have been good value. The negatives: - The sulphur smell - It's a feature of the thermal pool, not a fault. They perhaps ought to bring it to people's attention rather than leave it to people to find out on reviews or small print. We read about it before we booked, but it was, especially in the mornings, much more intense than we imagined, but we got used to it. I have seen comments about there being no tea/coffee in the room or no water. This is an annoying detail in many 4-5 star hotels, and it makes no sense to me why it is not provided as standard. However, just outside this hotel is a water fountain (spring?) which we filled our bottles up every night and every morning. I am sure the tap water is drinkable too. We would (probably will) be back. Thank you!

Hotel Sirmione is in a fabulous location. It is right next to the castle and the old town with all its restaurants, shops and gelataria (there are a lot of them!) are right on your doorstep. To one side of the hotel is the ferry terminal and to the other is the boat trips round the island. We paid for a standard room but were delighted to find we had a massive balcony with a view of the lake. We didn't expect this. Not all rooms had balconies, but I think that most would have had a side view of the lake or the castle. The spa/pool area is lovely. Initially, we thought it was small but there were never more than a few people in the pool so it was perfect. The pool has lovely warm thermal water - it was the nicest pool I've ever been in. There were limited sunbeds, so it may be difficult to get one in peak season, but we had no problem. Inside the spa are some beds you can relax on as well. The spa had all the usual things - sauna, whirlpool, steam room. Our room was not very big, but adequate. There was a lot of storage space for clothes and the safe was free, unlike some hotels. The TV had a lot of channels, but only one English speaking, but this did not work, so the TV was pretty useless to us. The bed was very comfy and the pillows nice and fluffy. The shower was amazing (once we figured out how to work it!). The room had a sort of retro 1950s vibe. The hotel provided robes (everyone wore them round the pool) which was good. These got changed once in the week. The room was clean and towels changed daily. The biggest negatives of the room was the air conditioning and the sockets. The air con was inadequate. It had a control but this did very little. I think it was working as I could hear something but I woke up hot nearly every night. The weather was cooler when we went so I can imagine it would be really hot in the peak season. The room only had one power socket to use - and with 2 phones, a tablet, 2 power bars, a watch, an electric toothbrush and airpods to keep charged, this was totally inadequate and not up to modern standards. Not only that, but if the maid came in when we had something charging they unplugged it! The hotel really needs to bring this up to modern expectations. Sockets near the bed are a must these days. The other issue we had in our room was the toilet was constantly dripping. We reported this and no one came. I reported again the following evening and a man came to look at it. We agreed it would be sorted the next day as it was 10pm and needless to say - it never get sorted. So if the hotel are reading this - you need to sort the toilet out in room 108!! It is really irritating listening to the drip..drip. Breakfast was OK - the usual selection. It never really changed so was a little boring by the end of the week. If you wanted orange juice or a decent coffee you had to pay. I didn't like the juices on offer and was a bit disappointed orange juice was not provided as this seems standard in most hotels. The coffee provided for free was Americano and not the best. All that being said, there was a wide range of pastries, cakes and croissants. There was bacon, scrambled egg, sausage, meats, cheese and toast. The restaurant was next to the lake so if you were outside or positioned yourself near the window inside you could see the lake whilst having your breakfast which was nice. So overall I would recommend this hotel. There is definitely room for some improvement, but it has some great selling points with location being one of them. The staff were all friendly and helpful and we had a fabulous stay. Sirmione is magical and will always have a special place in my heart now.

The hotel is in a great location. However, it needs some TLC - it's looking old and the interior (carpets, walls, etc) need upgrading and a serious cleaning. Breakfast is what you get at the buffet, but if you need something more (like fried eggs) it's extra, but you wait a long time to get the egg… more
