Just returned from a week at the Excelsior Bay hotel. As 1st timers to lake Garda we wanted a hotel that would be an ideal base from which to explore. We couldn't have chosen better. From the inital welcome at check in to our departure the team made sure our stay was perfect. Our room (210) had an excellent view of the lake. Overall the hotel was ideal, the breakfast was plentyful, rooms clean and well serviced, plus beds were super comfy and provided undisturbed sleep after numerious busy days out and about. Another nice treat after returning back after a day of exploring was topping it off with a visit to the sauna (we didn't ever need to book, just requested access at reception 10 mins before we wanted to use it). Throughout our stay the hotel staff were great, special mentions to the breakfast waiters / waitresses who were always so happy and helped start the day with a smile, and to reception for arranging a breakfast bag to take to the airport as our transfers were scheduled for 7am before the breakfast room opened. The hotel pool area is large and provided plenty of loungers to enjoy the sunshine and an aperol spritz or 2!!!! If you are staying in Malcesine and you want a quiet and relaxing hotel from which to base yourself then this is the hotel for you.

A great hotel within easy walking distance of the centre of Malcesine. Room was basic but clean and comfortable. Staff were attentive and hotel manager was happy to change our room for one with a view over the lake. Would definitely stay here again as proved to be an excellent base for all of our trips out.

What a lovely hotel, having read the great reviews we decided to stay here & glad we did. We were greeted with a warm welcome on our arrival & a welcome drink while passports were registered. Our room was spotlessly clean, spacious & bright with a balcony, bathroom had lovely big white soft towels. Huge bed which was very comfortable as were the pillows. Lovely spotless pool & plenty of sun loungers.A good selection at breakfast all fresh, eggs were particularly good quality. All staff very friendly & willing with a smile. We would definitely recommend the hotel for lakeside location, a nice few minutes walk into town, comfort & friendliness of all staff.

My wife and I have just returned from 11 nights at Excelsior Bay. The hotel is wonderfully situated on the lakefront and you literally walk out of the hotel onto the beautiful coastal path, which stretches for about 10 miles in total. The town centre of Malcesine is a 10 minutes easy and flat stroll from the hotel. Our room (236) was on the second floor, on the side of the hotel, with a lake view from the small but adequate balcony. There was no road noise, just the occasional bin lorry. The room itself was well furnished with plenty of storage and hanging space. There was also a handy safe. The bed was comfy, with a choice of pillows. The bathroom was excellent, with a large walk-in shower and plenty of soap, shampoos, etc. Everything was spotless and serviced daily by friendly staff. The hotel does not do meals, only a limited snack menu (with many super restaurants within each reach, this was not a problem). The breakfast itself was fine, with a good choice across most categories. The gluten-free choice however was limited, if this is an issue. The best part was sitting having breakfast on the outside patio, with the lake shimmering in front of you and a few early morning strollers ambling past. There is a relatively large pool area, with plenty of chairs, sunbeds and umbrellas. The pool itself looked spotless but was unheated. We didn't have the courage to try it out but plenty of others did. The staff, both at the front desk and in the restaurant, were friendly and efficient. All my minor questions and requests were dealt with on the spot or by return. One small point is that there is a local tourist tax of 2 € person per day. This was not collected from us until our last day, when we went to the reception on another matter. With an early departure time, we could easily have left the next day without paying! All in all, this is a excellent small hotel in a prime location. There are however two issues which stopped me from awarding 5 stars. Firstly, there is a terrace overlooking Garda lake. Sadly, it looks neglected and nobody seems to use it. It should either be brought up to standard or closed off. Secondly, in our room at least, the A/C was either not working or working very ineffectively. In the high season, this could be a real problem - it was quite uncomfortable for us with outside temperature in the mid to high 20s.
