Having previously stayed in Firenze, my wife and I decided to stay in Oltrarno across the river a short ten minute walk across the river to the Galileo or Uffizi Museums. The Hotel Silla turned out to be the perfect choice. It was easy to drive right up to the front door and leave our car in their small garage (reserve your spot early). Our room was in their annex about two blocks away. It was a newly renovated apartment on the third floor. There was plenty of space with a small, but adequate kitchen area (everything you needed to cook and eat in if desired), a sitting room with a table for two open to the sleeping area and a huge bathroom. There was plenty of light and ventilation. We chose to have breakfast in our room instead of going back to the main hotel. There was a bakery and a food shop (meats, fresh vegetables, canned and prepared foods – not comparable to anything we have in America today) within steps of our building. There was a view of Florence’s original wall out of our bedroom window. We were also at the foot of the mountain below Piazzale Michelangelo. There was a bistro and two café osterias right out our front door. The only very minor negatives about our room were no horizontal space around the sink in the bathroom and the microwave had to be moved to plug it in. I almost didn’t mention them. We did not see any of the rooms in the main hotel, but it had the look of an old elegant European hotel. The staff were friendly and very helpful, especially Massimo.

“Best decision ever, to stay at Hotel Silla whilst in Florence”

Superb stay. Prior to travel the staff answered several emails promptly and efficiently , pleasantly surprised at check in to be told we have been upgraded to a superior room and it certainly was. Superb stay. Prior to travel the staff answered several emails promptly and efficiently , pleasantly surprised at check in to be told we have been upgraded to a superior room and it certainly was. The breakfast is plentiful and varied and the staff kept it all topped up, its hard to do good scrambled eggs for a breakfast buffet but they managed it here. The hotel is a nice 10/15 min walk from the centre but worth it as the area is quiet. All the staff I met were very, very welcoming and helpful. Will be here again next time I am in Florence.

Super courteous and friendly staffs. Everyone is super polite and helpful. room is clean, well-lit, and spacious. Included breakfast is generous and tasty. 10-minute walk from Uffizi Gallery but on the side of river Arno, hence away from all the noise and heavy traffic. Many good restaurants... more

“Out stay not the full experience?”

We booked this hotel and after booking were informed we would be placed in one of their 2 apartments nearby, not in an actual room at the hotel. I think if we had been able to stay in the hotel itself our experience would have been better. The photos of the rooms looked very nice however the photos made the apartment seem dark from the photos, and it definitely was. A bellman walked us over and let us in, but it was enough distance from the hotel that it wasn’t really that convenient to go back and forth to enjoy the breakfast or hang out at the bar. It looked like a big Rick Steves group was at the hotel during our stay, probably why we were relegated to the apartment. We never received any housekeeping or other services and no one ever checked in to see if we needed anything. Thankfully there were coffee pods in the room, although we did run out. The price was definitely very, very reasonable for the size of the unit we stayed in. The bathroom although small was very nicely updated. The apartment needs to be repainted and brightened up though. Where it is situated in the building does not allow for much light through the 2 windows. The strange geometric paint design made it look dated and the furnishings were clunky 1980s-ish. The bed was not super comfortable, on the hard side. The location however is very nice in the Oltrarno area. It’s an easy walk to many, many shops and restaurants and the Michelangelo Piazza, and the churches on that hill above. Also easy to walk across the river to the main sites, museums, etc. We had a car one day for a day trip and were able to find parking nearby overnight. I wish I could rate it higher and would try staying again if we could have had a room in the actual hotel. I see the potential, we just didn’t like this particular apartment and felt a little isolated. Would have been nice to be around other travelers just a little.
