“Right next to Duomo. ”

Excellent location and comfy beds. Decent breakfast which is always topped up. Friendly staff. Rooms cleaned to a high standard daily. What a great experience It was being in heart of the city. Quirky internal courtyard too. We loved this hotel

This is an older hotel right off the Duomo. The location is excellent, as you can walk to most Firenze's attractions, as well from and to Santa Maria Novella train station. There are nice restaurantes and all kinds of shops all around it. Our room was a little small, but I guess average for Firenze. There were design problems with the shower, but bed quality was acceptable. Do not count with amenities, which are just usable. The breakfast is ok. It is a real treat to open the window to one of the Duomo's lovely towers. For me another treat was to hear the Duomo's bells, as if just above your head. In overall I find it to be a good cost benefit choice.

“Great location, key security is concerning”

The hotel is centrally located, 1 street over from the Duomo, church, and Tower. The excellent location is fantastic as we found that we were a 15 minute walk, or less, to all attractions, with the exception of Piazzale de Michelangelo, which we cabbed to. The hotel is not perfect, and I will highlight both the positives and negatives that we experienced. Overall the positives well outweighed the negatives. Positives: As stated above, the location of this hotel can't be beat. Breakfast is included in the stay, which included cappuccino, espresso, coffee, pastries, hard boiled eggs, toasts, breads, and a selection of meat and cheese. The room we had, 306, was well appointed and large enough for the two of us. We had a direct view of the bell tower from our window, which was beautiful. The bathroom was spacious including a toilet, bidet, shower, sink and plenty of towels. The bed was large and firm and it was extremely comfy (perfect for a good rest after a day full of walking). The tv was adequate size and featured 999 channels (some repeated, but we could always find something while we wound down from the day). There was a large wardrobe and a safe in the room as well. The window fully opens or you can crack the top of the window. Keep in mind the hotel is one street over from the bell tower and you will hear the bells loud and clear in the morning. The front desk is staffed 24 hours a day and all staff were very friendly. Cleaning of the room occurs daily and there is a "no cleaning" card that you can hang if you wish to not have your room made up. The negatives: This hotel REQUIRES you to turn in your key at the front desk each time you leave the property. We found this odd and it made us very uncomfortable. We asked the desk staff if they require any proof of identity upon return, and they told us, almost proudly: "No. Just ask for the number". This was especially concerning the first few times as new staff we encountered for the first time simply handed over the key without question. We aren't sure why guests need to turn in the key each time they leave, but we think they might turn off the power to the room because each time we returned, the fan/AC system was completely off and none of the devices we left plugged in charged while we were out. The key is also on a large brass medallion which they probably do not want to lose. The hotel is dated, but the most telling part of this is the elevator system. There are two elevators: one from the street level to the lobby, and one from the lobby to the room levels. Both are extremely old, worn down, and very small. The elevator from the street level has a cracked floor that "gives" when stepped on. We took the stairs except for the day we arrived and the day we left as we had the luggage. The wifi didn't work. Instructions were to log into Facebook and connect to the wifi. Each time we tried we got an error staying that the Facebook app isn't supported and that the app developer was aware of the issue. The bathroom, while spacious, had a very small shower and no space to put your shower items (soap, shampoo, etc). The Neutral: The hotel is dated, but it is clean. Could it use an update? Most definitely. The hotel has potential, but they need to improve some of how they do business. Overall, we are very satisfied with our stay and will return should we come back to Florence in the future. I would have given this hotel a 4/5 if we could have kept the key.
