“Lovely hotel”

Quaint hotel overlooking a small canal with a pretty garden. Room was lovely. Everything was clean. Best breakfast of all our hotels in Italy Staff was friendly and helpful. Close to water bus so you get anywhere in Venice fairly easy. Highly recommended

For me, a five-star hotel review is for somewhere I feel totally comfortable and where I am sorry to leave. I can`t say that Pensione Accademia had this effect. It looks good, the room was comfortable and the hotel is in a prime location, but there was just something that made me feel a little on edge at times. Perhaps it was the person working reception who appeared constantly glued to their computer screen to the exclusion of anything else or the reluctance of housekeeping to part with toilet roll (after 2 days, having to visit reception to request a fresh supply and then be handed half a roll doesn`t strike me as particularly professional). On the plus side, breakfast was very pleasant and the chap running the dining room was friendly and quietly efficient. I think this might be a hotel which caters more for its usual clientele who might value the positive aspects of their accommodation and either do not notice or are happy to overlook the less than positive. Not a bad stay by any means, but not wonderful either.

“Charming and Convenient”

The hotel is conveniently located in the Dorsoduro area just right off the Grand Canal and a short walk from the Accademia bridge. The hotel is conveniently located in the Dorsoduro area just right off the Grand Canal and a short walk from the Accademia bridge. It has its own landing dock so if you’re splurging on a water taxi to and from the airport (which we did), it makes for an easy transfer. We had a 2-bedroom suite on the ground floor, which was quite spacious, especially the master bedroom. Breakfast was the typical spread of eggs, bacon, pastries, yogurts, and fruit. Staff were friendly and helpful all around. The bathroom was in need of some refurbishment but the basics were covered. I will note that the king-sized bed in the master was not level on the left side.

This is an absolutely lovely establishment and very well run, in a nice part of the city. It is close to the Accademia Bridge and Vaporetto. Immaculately clean, with excellent service and a wonderful buffet breakfast which may be taken inside or outside in the lovely garden. Capucino or other coffees are served by an attendant staff. Fresh fruit and lemon flavored water always available. There's a lot of public space inside and outside. There is a major flaw, though, for those who would choose a room rather than the far more expensive suites. Not that the "rooms" are inexpensive. The rooms are on the second floor and, given the height of the ceilings on the first floor, it is a long climb up-and no elevator. Furthermore, the room we had was, well I would call it: tiny. The manager insisted it was the largest room they had, recited the square meterage, and insisted that it met the requirements of 3 stars. What do I mean by tiny? Well, there was no chair in the room. There were 2 tiny stools. When in the room, all you could really do was sit on the bed, or sleep on the bed Worse still was the shower. Smaller than a telephone booth, if you remember what they were like. Hardly room to turn around. Very uncomfortable to use. For the cost I expected more, even in Venice. As for the experience I rated it average, though it was better than that, perhaps good, but not very good. We would not return. If you can afford a first floor "suite" and are willing to pay for it it might be the hotel for you.
