I have enjoyed my stay at the Hotel La Fenice Et Des Artistes. Nicolo and Tommy, who work here, are friendly and very helpful. They offered a great service. The gentleman at the service desk, when I arrived, orientated me to the area and was extremely helpful. The porters, housekeepers, and breakfast servers, are very friendly and give a service with a smile. I stayed in a standard single room and it was comfortable with heating and/or air conditioning. I feel I had value for money. As a lone traveller I felt safe here. The location is central and all the main places to go are within walking distance and I was quick to learn how to get around. You will get lost in Venice but be not afraid. All roads lead to Rome and I found that if you walk enough, I end up finding my way back by accident. The fun with Venice is TO GET LOST. Google maps worked very well, occasionally glitchy, but if you plan before you leave, the map will even tell you which water bus to get. My advice is to purchase a 7-day water bus pass for €65 or it’s €9.50 for 75 minutes. I thoroughly used my 7-day pass so it was great value. That said, you can get around on foot without needing to take a water taxi but that would be a lot of walking (with the exception of travelling to Murano). Murano is cheaper than the rest of Venice for food and shopping. I enjoyed a meal for €10 and a bottle of whisky for €13. Water bus to and from airport costs €15 each way, and takes approx 1 hour to get to the airport or to Venice from the airport. The hotel staff are very knowledgeable and will advise you should you need help to get around. My only negative points are that the room was a little dusty in areas and the shower head could do with replacing. However, with so many people not having the luxury to go on holiday or afford the bare necessities in life, I stayed in relative luxury. I would come again, and I am already planning my next trip. Be respectful to the Venetians. Give way to them when getting on a water bus. They have to live here and the streets are quite narrow, so be mindful when you stop to take photos that you are not annoying residents trying to pass. Most people in Venice speak English so for the English speaking person you will get along just fine.

A wonderful place to stay in Venice. Near everything, yet quiet and peaceful. The young man at the desk provided superb customer service, especially in organizing a water taxi at the end of our stay. The room was large and the bathroom floors were heated! What a treat. The shower in our room was excellent. The beds were very firm - a little more firm than we prefer, but OK. Breakfast was lovely with fresh baked treats and was open for an extended period. This is a small place in an older building. It truly gave you the feeling of being someplace special - Venice.

This hotel is expensive at almost $500 per night Canadian, but we felt worth it for its location. The central AC had been turned off by the time we arrived (Oct 11) but with the windows open at night, there was a sufficiently cool breeze. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with one exception. On Saturday Oct 12, I went to the front desk to inquire how to get to the airport the next day. Massimo was the only employee working and he ignored me for over five minutes until I finally said something. He was rude, arrogant, and obstinate which contrasted with two of the other gentlemen who assisted me the day before and subsequently later the same day. When I returned a few hours later to clarify directions for the water taxi, Massimo was again dismissive and curt. This employee does not understand the importance of strong customer service unlike his counterparts. He left a sour taste in our otherwise wonderful experience.

Fantastic location just out of the fray. Easily accessible by water taxi (Rio Tera Assassini) and pretty much anything you want to see is walkable. Hotel itself is a little run down around the edges, but pleasantly bohemian with great art scattered throughout. Only real complaint is that the bathroom in our room is definitely in need of updating, particularly the shower situation - water goes everywhere due to the retrofitted setup. Staff are friendly enough and generally helpful. Felt it was a pretty good value overall.

The hotel is centrally located, but situated in a quiet little square where you can totally relax after a day in the hustle and bustle. The staff is very friendly and happy to help with questions about the city. You should not expect the greatest luxury, but you have everything you should have and it is very clean. The breakfast is definitely ok & you have a very cozy bar under the hotel for evenings. We definitely recommend this hotel to friends who want to come to Venice. A review of 4 because the rooms are a bit outdated, but they are very clean.
