I was 2 nights in the hotel and it was a very good experience. At the first moment, the staff (a girl called Chiara) was very kind and helped me with recommendations of good restaurants. The price is very reasonable and the breakfast is adequate. Besides, it has a good location. The elevator is small but as I traveled alone wasn’t a problem. The view from my room was amazing. The WiFi has a good speed. Definitely, I would be back.

For a short trip this hotel is definitely a good choice. The hotel staff is very friendly and the breakfast is excellent. The football table in the restaurant at the ground floor could be very loud at night. The shower in the bathroom is also very small but quite acceptable for a short trip to Assisi!

“Location and convenience trumps luxurious setting, at least for us”

This is an old hotel it seems--what doesn't seem old in Assisi? I can complain a bit about having 3 single beds in our room, being on a hall with one other room, the difficulties if one were wheelchair bound, the shower being on the small side, and extreme smallness of the elevator (2 Americans, 4 Italians). However, in looking back over it, there is an old world quality to the experience. They want you to leave your key at the desk as you come and go--creating a cultural experience each time in giving and receiving the key along with conversation. The coffee/tea bar was convenient and fun. The hotel has a lot of things figured out; what with a gelato stand just up the way, and a convenience store next door. The best, given the hills, was that the door off the restaurant level led to a street so that you were already half way up the hill upon exiting. The location is awesome, both a way to get around town, as well as the views from the hotel looking over the valley. Breakfast in the hotel was okay--it seemed as though they weren't sure what to bring these people for breakfast nor how much would be enough. If you like juice, beware that the dispenser gives concentrate--on the good side you could add water, or add frizzante giving you a sparkling juice. It is not a breakfast you could ever expect to see in the US. The hotel staff were very pleasant and conversant. After going to Rome and experiencing the corporate style of hotel, I was wishing for Il Castello again.

I'll go along with the other reviewers and call the hotel charming. It is built directly into the ancient walls of Assisi. I'll go along with the other reviewers and call the hotel charming. It is built directly into the ancient walls of Assisi. The hotel wasn't horrible, but it would not be my first choice in the Assisi area. (I was with a high school group of 80+ people and had no choice in the matter.) The key situation is a bit unsettling. They expect you to give back your key when you leave the hotel. The keys are then hung up behind the front desk. This is potentially dangerous because people can easily tell if you are in your room or not. My group took over the entire hotel so I wasn't as worried, but if strangers weren't around I would be a bit hesitant to give it back. There is one elevator in the hotel and it is teeny tiny. It was literally the size of a phone booth. Location: Great. The views were beautiful. Take the time to walk to the end of the block to view the sunset. It is very close to the Basilica of St. Francis and places to eat. Wifi: Surprisingly good and free Room: Basic. From what I understand, many of the rooms had different set ups. My room did not have a tub and the shower was very small. It may have been smaller than a cruise ship cabin's shower to give you some perspective. My room did not have a bidet but some rooms did. My room had a television that could not connect to any channels but any other rooms did not have a tv at all. The beds were not very comfortable but after touring all day, it doesn't matter as much. The walls are super thin. I found myself whispering to make sure people outside the room didn't hear me. Please note that there are no safes in the rooms. ATM: None at the hotel. I had to walk about a half mile UPHILL to find one. Now keep in mind I had no idea where I was going. The natives just pointed and told me to go to the "Piazza del Comune" so I kept walking and asking until I reached it. Breakfast: It was decent. They had frittatas, croissants, cereal, yogurt, salami, prosciutto, cheese, and cereal bars. Those are just the items I can remember off the top of my head. Overall, it is not what an American traveler is used to. If you keep an open mind, it is not so bad. You may actually find the hotel to be charming as well.
